Not surprising seeing all the new tech that is coming out of NAIM.. Would guess the NDX can't be far behind on the chopping block. Looking forward to seeing what replaces it.

Is there an ND555 box on display?
Harry, for your eyes only ND555 on top of the matching power supply it should available around May-ish evidently there will be a launch at our local dealer.
That looks cool, did they give a price indication

Frightened to ask no Medics close by !!
Thanks for the pics, much appreciated.
“Matching power supply” so not a 555PS then?

As Mrs Doyle from the Father Ted series used to say.......Oh now go on you know you want to!

I should have worded that better what I meant was it has the matching case finish.
if the ndx2 has the grip and urgency of the cdx2, i will sell my nds to take it!
As for the ps of the nd555,it looks like a 555dr....
Pcd posted:New NDX 2 on static display at the Bristol show this morning.Naim have done a fine job of incorporating the new screen into the Classic casing it looks stunning, should be available around about July price indicated of just over 4K. I thought it would be a bit more than that?
Was that July 2018?
Innocent Bystander posted:nigelb posted:nigelb posted:That makes more sense. The ND555 with the suspended sub chassis a la NDS and a posh new NDX with the new architecture and screen like the ND555 and the NDS no more.
Product line rationalisation makes a lot of sense as long as no large (performance/price point) gaps are created.
I now hear full-blown laughter emanating from Salisbury and Bristol!
I swear I had no prior knowledge, just a lucky guess on my part.
Do I get a prize?
Erm, your post followed mine making the prediction, though you polished it a little with some detail. I claim the prize!
Bu**er. Fair cop IB. You get the imaginary prize I suppose!
I am not totally sold on the screens to be honest, look rather dominating. Is the remote they are using the same as the new Uniti range? If so it's extremely uncomfortable in the hand as very sharp hard edged.
Thank you PCD. Much appreciated.
Nice.
We're in Bath next week. We will pop in for a natter with Andrew/Ian and possibly Peter..
Very nice hardware, kudos to Naim for having retained the classic design and the green logo and lights! The device will stand or fall by its software, however. I am looking forward to see what the device can actually do, whether it is just a pure streamer or whether it can also run a UPnP server, whether it can be set up via a web interface or not and whether its S/PDIF output matches the quality of modern network players. Does it by the way also have a USB output or just analogue and S/PDIF outputs?
My bet is pure streamer, no Upnp server.....

Until told otherwise: I would assume the functionality will be the same as the streaming section of the Uniti devices. Unless I’m mistaken that’s the case with old Uniti vs NDS.
and whether its S/PDIF output matches the quality of modern network players.
Likely open to debate especially as modern network players vary in the quality of their SPDIF outputs... though there may not even be an SPDIF output!

There’s no mention of USB output, however the NaimAudio web page does mention LVDS output (I assume i2s).

I'm with you on the colour display, Popeye. That may change though. It was years before I managed to prefer the current styling over the olive.
I hope it will be possible to download updates via the Internet rather than the like the NDS which requires a laptop which also needs to be plugged into the network switch.
At least my NDS has just gained scarcity value...

Clive, that was a question I asked Naim this morning updates will be via the internet over WiFi no computer needed I did ask about the screen and they said it could be switched off?
That's very Naim like.
And one of the first things I will do.
The Naim website states that they will be updated over the air. What I’m interested is whether the 272 is for the chop. If it is, and there is no better streaming preamp, then it’s a tricky one where to go next, if anywhere of course. An NDS means two more boxes for a preamp. Speaking to various people from Naim - they say that the 272/250 is probably their biggest seller. So if it goes, will people really want all those boxes? If anyone gets a chance to ask at the show over the weekend, please let me know!

Perhaps it will remain, for a while at least, as a solid simple platform - high-end sound from which significant investment is needed to considerably improve upon?

all confusing, seem to want out the date look , the screen does look out of proportion to the height . the uniti range looks modern which is were the range should be.

If its their biggest seller, ai would think they’d hesitate to drop it unless they had a better equivalent - whether that is 272-2 or 372.

Why is it out of date? Do the poweramps look out of date? Does everything need to be ‘modern’? Some of the best design is strongly linked to the past - look at furniture, lighting, cars, cycles. I think the Uniti range is a far less desirable design than the classic series.

It will be possible to set the screen to use the classical green on black color scheme or just set it to black and white, I guess.
