Does a 282 benefit from recapping?

I have a 282 that is twelve years old or a bit more. Do preamps benefit from a recap? If so, is there the same improvement as power amps have when so serviced?

Hi

i had my 52 recapped by Class A last year. Was like a curtain had been lifted. Took 2 weeks to run in but after that was a transformed beast. 12-15 years seems to be the recommendation for a NAC.

It does  of course , probably even more than power amps. The little tantalum caps, according to our local service manager, play a major part on a premp performance.

If 12 years old, i would not hesitate to service it.

Good to know. I ask because the recap isn't cheap from what I know, and  I'm wondering whether putting the money toward a Supercap would give better return for the $.  I have a Hicap DR now.

I'd do the service first and then re-evaluate the SC (good as that is on a 282).

I had my 282 serviced by Darren at Class A it was well worth the £249 plus the postage, it came back sounding like it did 13 years ago.

Can’t talk for a pre but my CDS3 after a service was transformed.

We don't have the same amount of competition in North America. One company in the US charges over $1100.00 US. I don't have a price in Canada.

In Canada, Plurison have a toll free number if you look at their site.

As a rule, high current devices (amps, power supplies) experience the most rapid performace decline in their components.

Good news this, I need to get my (2008) 282 serviced as the logo barely lights and one channel is out on the Aux 2 phono - the news that I can expect a decent performance uplift is a very welcome bonus given it sounds great now.
