Was I missing something?

Hi all

In light of the new streamers on the horizon, I was thinking about prolonging the life of my NDX.

I currently only stream Tidal FLAC and thought about If anything happens with Tidal and the older streamers not being supported for further updates and adjustments to native support of other HD streaming providers i.e Qobuz.

I thought (wrongly) that the USB on the front of the NDX was for streaming the Itunes music that was stored on your phone only, and not able to play the music from the streaming app that is installed on the phone i.e Qobuz.

Everything seems to work fine to my surprise. How does this connection differ from the native onboard Tidal setting, is there a sound quality difference? Also am I right in thinking that the NDX will now work with Roon if you connect an Ipad to the USB as an Ipad is a Roon endpoint also.

Thanks

Load the Tidal app onto your iPhone and you can do a direct comparison.

I was meaning via bit/sample rate comparison. Thanks for answering my questions on what I asked. Ha

your NDX should be fine, keep the firmware upto date - sorry I don't stream through my NDX use it for Iradio and UpNP - which it can play all formats except MQA, certainly mine which is from 2014 can play all high res music files even DSD - which I have 2 albums

I have only used the USB a couple of times works fine

will look at the NDX2 when with dealers but I am in no rush at the moment, assuming life with NDX will continue - very happy with my NAS and Asset

When I had an ND5XS the USB socket was my preferred way of streaming music files but not via iPhone/iPad via USB stick although I did connect it once just to try it and was able to play ytracks from Apple music but to be honest it didn't sound great.

Yes, it will. That's a good way to get up and running with Roon if you want to try it out. Obviously you still need a Roon Core running on a computer too.
