Unitiserve T2

having trouble with my server staying connected to my network (hardwired). It drops out almost as soon as any music stops. Just wondering if I should turn off when not using to allow to cool down. I’ve always thought that naim products should be left on. We have had a hot summer (sorry), the server does seem to get quite warm at times and the only way to reconnect is rebooting.
I leave my Unitiserve on all the time, but that's in a distinctly cool N. Wales climate! You can check the US internal temperature by logging into the web browser interface - type its name or IP address into any browser. Go to System > System Status and page down to the bottom of the screen. You'll be able to see the internal temperature monitors and fan status. Mine are normally in the high 30s to low 40s. I'm not sure it there's an automatic shutdown like the Naim power amps, but at least you'll be able to see if the temperature is particularly high when yours shuts down.
At the risk of provoking the "oh there he goes asking about the network again" brigade - how is your UnitiServe connected to your router - are there any Ethernet over Mains adapters in the run back from the UnitiServe back to your router? (I ask because we have seen issues with EoM devices sometimes going into "sleep" mode and not coming out of sleep until the unit is rebooted.)

My router drops the connection with the exchange (or vice versa) on a regular basis. When that happens I have to reboot the Unitiserve - it doesn't automatically reconnect.
[US connected to router via Airport Extreme and switch. No EoM.]
My 2TB UnitiServe, hard-wired directly to a Netgear router, periodically goes into a state where the connection oscillates on and off (at about 3 second intervals). A minor irritation that rebooting fixes. I'm in the countryside, with no other networks competing. Any ideas as to what might be causing the connection to drop out ? I've not disabled DHCP.
Thanks,
Jan
Hi Jan, having DHCP enabled does not in itself ensure the network works properly. It is possible that since the router rebooted, another node on your network has taken the address that is being (still) used by the UnitiServe. They would then both have the same address, and this would cause problems. (To be clear, I'm assuming your DHCP server is running on the router/gateway which is typical setup for home networks )
In order to force the UnitiServe to find another address that is unused, it would need a reboot as well. You see, the UnitiServe will not ask for a new address when the router is rebooted. It will wait until it's DHCP lease expires, and then ask, which means it could keep using it's original address for quite a while. (Your DHCP setup has a setting for lease time, usually stated in seconds)
I would recommend to all, that you put your music equipment addresses in the DHCP reservations list. This ensures that they always get THE SAME address, and ensures other non-reserved equipment will get an address which doesn't conflict (is the same). I believe this is the root cause of many issues people are experiencing on the streaming forum.
Hi SB, thank you for your reply. I will try what you recommend.
