Had my Nait 3 back in place for 3 weeks now after its service, so I think I can evaluate its performance now it its thoroughly warmed up.
The reason I had it serviced was the slightly lumpen performance from the phono boards via my new P6 Rega turntable.
There has certainly been an improvement in several areas. Midrange and treble are now more forward in the mix and the bass is tighter and more defined.
The last piece of the jigsaw will be upgrading from the Rega Exact cartridge to an Audio Technica MM. This should get the sound away from the systems naturally warm characteristics, to a more open, rounded register.
Has anbody here any recommendations for the £300 to £650 MM Audio Technica carts?, and whether or not they needed a spacer to accommodate the extra depth.
Many thanks
Clive

Clive, Glad you had that service. I don't think many AT MMs fall into the price range you specify.
It wouldn't be unheard of to have one of their cheapest, the AT95e, in your set. It might give some of what you are looking for.

Chris, I think that the new AT540, AT740 and AT760 MM carts fall into this range. FWIW, I recall reading a review of these recently which looked most favourably on these. Unfortunately I can't remember which magazine it was...

Ah, thanks Richard. Clive, I apologise for trying to give a pointer based on 1980s experience. Seems things have moved on.

Thanks guys
No need for apologies Christopher.....
Thanks Richard, agreed, tracking down a decent review of said carts is quite tricky. The discontinued 440mlb has very favourable reviews and is still available on the river site....quite tempting?
