Spotify lossless.

If, as seems possible, "Spotify Hifi" becomes available this year, will I be able to access it on my ND5XS in the same way that I can currently access Tidal lossless?

I very much doubt it without a firmware update..

I very much doubt Spotify will release a lossless service, they have no need to. They are loosing enough already without throwing money into something that will give little return. General public are more than happy with compressed music and would look at you strangely if you mentioned something called flac.

They did beta test it last year though, I think it’s only a matter of time before lossless becomes the norm for streaming services

Been waiting over a year since the rumoured beta, still nothing, yes Tidal offers lossless but I prefer the Spotify UI and playlists and be nice to only pay 1 subscription plus Spotify works via Android Auto in my car making it seemless listening.

I would say another plus is not using the Naim app and just using Spotify but even that causes freezes and lock ups with the Nova (if you believe Naim i don't it's your home network - which is perfect for anything but Naim).

Given Spotify are more focused on their IPO not anytime soon.

But IF it does assume it is ready to go from Naim streamers.

I don't see why Spotify Hi Fi would not be supported on the old and new Naim streamers. It's logical, especially as Spotify is integrated into the streamers. Unfortunately, it looks like Spotify is not very interested in providing a lossless option to it's customers. And unless Apple or Amazon decide to add lossless to it's music service, I can't see Tidal or Qobuz being a real threat to Spotify. I hope I'm wrong however. As the Tidal UI and music suggestions just don't do it for me.

Mike are you using the TIDAL Hi-Fi service?  What advantages do you see using Spotify vs Tidal?

I have stuck with Tidal after the free 90 day HI-Fi service when I picked up my Naim Streamer last July. Is that what you are using now?

Just curious, and always interested if there is any advantage to using one service over another.

I found Spotify to be better than Tidal in every respect, except for sound quality, where Tidal lossless is usually, but not always better. I thought it had a better app to navigate around and discover music. There seems to be less of the shoddy curation you so often see in Tidal, with its frequent duplicates and triplicates of tracks, albums and artists; individual tracks or albums randomly ceasing to be available, and lossy tracks playing when you have paid for lossless. Spotify also seems to have a wider selection of music, especially jazz and classical.

If Spotify had decent sound quality, I would jump ship immediately, but it doesn't, and for me, that makes it a non-starter.

I doubt that Spotify will ever offer lossless service. Yes, it has better app, better curated plists and seemingly wider selection for particular genres but its SQ is below par. Tidal is the only option to go for me. I am too irritated of duplicates, triplicates of albums as well as the search ability of embedded Tidal source in Naim app, that does not work as good as that of Tidal’s own app.

I have been with Tidal since late 2015 and for what it is and for the varied music I listen to it’s hard to beat.

If money was no object I’d probably subscribe to full fat Quboz too just for the Jazz section but it is so I stick with Tidal.

I'm sticking with tidal too ..while there isn't a viable hifi alternative..but if there was one...
