Music Collection to Excel Database
Posted by: Red Kite on 01 March 2018
I have searched and found a few queries but no solution.
I just want to have a list of all my albums so i dont buy duplicates when out shopping. Its would basically be an alphabetical list of all the folders in the UnityCore but i am at a loss on how to do it. I have tried exporting from my backup drive using mp3tag or TagScanner but just get gobblydygook.
Does anyone have a simple solution or indeed could Naim provide that function ?
OK, i'll google it .....

Assume that your music is in a NAS drive and you've already mapped it to a drive letter. I use B: for no reason other than it isn't C: **SNIP**
But B: is your second floppy drive!
Anything that would work with a Mac?
To keep track of my music collection on my server, when out of the house, I actually use Plex. I point Plex to the folders on my server and enable remote access. I don’t use Plex to play the music just movies (I use Asset for that). It works well and means I have an up to date view of my collection (4500 albums and growing!) on my iPhone. Plex is not brilliant with the metadata but works well enough. I don’t know if Plex can be used with the unity core though.

Yep - easy, use Meta by Nightbirdsevolve - download from the App Store. look up your files on your NAS for example and export straight in to Excel, Notes etc in perfect format. It also manages meta tags and album artwork with ease. https://www.nightbirdsevolve.com/meta/
Hello George H - Well, I've installed Meta on my Mac, but when I aim it at my Core, select the files under "MQ" and select "Open," all I get is a whirling beachball. So, I Force Quit and try it all over again - same result. Any ideas?

How many tracks do you have? It will take a while if you are reading over a network and if you have 100's of albums it could take a few minutes at first. Do you have the track backed up on a NAS or HDD? If so, I find that much quicker.
I have about 2300 albums ripped to my Core. I'll try Meta again & give it some time. I'm just a little concerned why the whirling beachball would appear - doesn't that mean that the application is unresponsive?
I note Meta is not free, unlike the fixes hitherto discussed for Windows. Surely similar means of importing the file structure into Excel must exist/work on Mac?

Jan, how do you find cached info. in N-Serve? I’ve only been able to view albums when it’s connected to the server.
Hi Chris,
It was automatic before the last nServe update, on my iphone at least, but not since. Currently, with my phone disconnected from wifi, I have access to full album list with cover images. Searching by genre or artist works down to the level of album name & image, while conductor or composer gets to them but no further.
The cache seems to 'stick' when I call up album search on nServe first before leaving the wifi zone. Worth a try.
