can i use a uniti lite with my supernait 2 as a preamp to stream and play cds?

This may seem like a stupid question to you, but if it works it looks like a relatively cheap way of getting a good sound with upgrade possibilities...

You can but you would be better off ripping your CD’s and buying a used NDX.

And if you have some patience (i.e wait for the release of the NDX2), you will get a preloved NDX for a marvellous price... :-)

Now that is... good advice. Any idea how much patience?

The Unitilite is a decent but entry level all in one unit with streamer, cd player, pre amp and power amp in one box.

Your Supernait 2 is a mid range integrated amplifier, it has a far more capable pre/power amp than the Unitilite

If you use the Unitilite with the Supernait as a pre-amp you will be using an inferior pre-amp to the one in the Supernait.

The NDX is a dedicated streamer and a very fine one too. It has no pre-amp, it like a separate CD player but with a streamer rather than a CD. You will need to tip your CD’s and store them on a nas drive which will serve your music to the NDX.

You would plug the NDX into your Supernait and have no redundancy as you would use the Supernait as an integrated amplifier as designed.

This will give you a very good 2 box system, and will sound much better than the Unitilite proposal.

You could buy a seperate DAC even an Ndac and connect the Unitilite to that and then DAC to Supernait 2.

I'm not sure the OP has the Unitilite yet?

Not quite sure, but I thought somebody mentioned summer in the network player thread. An SN2/NDX combo would be a great set up -- and then a HiCap DR to improve the preamp section of your SN2... ;-)

hi, no i dont. I am looking for the impossible, play cds well, the ability to stream ( but not the highest priority) and improve the sn2 with a preamp. All for max outlay of euro 1600 !

I know... dream on

With that budget, I think you should just get the best CD player you can for your money - from Naim, CD5XS would be the least you should settle for, and you might get a good used one within your budget. Then get a basic add-on streamer from the likes of Sonos or Yamaha, which would be cheap, and could be upgraded later if you feel the need.

Using Pre-Out from the Lite into the SN2 unity gain would work, but it would bypass the superior pre in the SN2.  Not using unity gain on the SN2 would mean running through two preamps, which is never desirable, if only because it is confusing to use two volume controls together.

I’d get a CD5X or XS and deal with streaming separately.  Or I would use a Lite or Uniti2 alone, or with a NAP250, maybe.

I have a Lite.  I love it on its own into Vienna Haydns.
