ReCase Olive SC
Posted by: Mort2k on 04 March 2018
quick question. Will Naim recase an olive box in a classic box ? No electronic changes. Just cosmetic on the rack.
Cheers rob
Mort,
It used to be offered by Naim, albeit it was quite costly because of the work that was required. I'm not sure whether it's still available but you could always ask...

Thanks Richard. Will ask
I seem to recall that you don’t get the new feet, just a new front. So it wouldn’t look like other Classic boxes. It’s best to check that as well.

Thanks HH good thought. May be easier to just sell the olive and buy a SC.2.
The CB and olive 250s I have seen converted to classic its just the fascia as HH states.
Even the sleeve case is left as original so feet remain.
As you have a 52 why not just keep the matching olive supercap? The Classic one won’t sound significantly better, as it only has a different case, feet and mains switch. The DR version is a different beast, though how DR affects the 52 I don’t know.
HH. It’s just a cosmetic thing. The olive SC is sat in the middle of other classic series boxes and looks out of place. Silly maybe but just part of my ocd. I don’t really want a DR as I have no plans for a 252.
In my middle life I have devolved from a person that used to be 'possessed' by the minutiae of minor imperfections to a person that no longer participates in the 'witch' hunt for 'extraterrestrial' influences that may possibly detract from the perceived experience. One could change the fascia but the inner 'soul' would still remain the same. I often find that stacks of seemingly identical boxes have less character than a collection of quirky boxes. I have a 252/SCDR paired with an olive 250 and to my humble ears they have a special synergy that I would be loathe to part with.
I have CB, Olive and Black. I did reverse the sleeve on the CB Hicap though
String a curtain in front: negligible cost, and you can have any mix you like behind withourpt affecting aesthetics, while hiding kit from would-be burglars peering through the window or visiting children with inquisitive fingers... i’m sure fabric can be got either olive or black in colour
