Unitilite and Tidal

Posted by: m.paul taylor on 04 March 2018

I have just bought a Unitilite. Very impressed so far. I use it in a garden room which has Ethernet connection to a computer and the Unitilite but has no WiFi. When I try to use Tidal (I have a subscription) it says “use Naim app”. Can I download the app to my PC so that I can control the unitilite by the computer? I assume the Naim  app on my iPad needs to connect by WiFi to the unitilite- am I right?

I could be wrong, but using the naim app on your iPad, go to the input settings and select Tidal and login.

If of course you haven't already done so.

This should then work for you so long as your iPad and UL are on the same network, doesn't matter about wired and wireless.

My apologies Paul, I have just re-read your post.

No wi-fi connection in the garden room for your iPad. I can't help with that, sorry.

Your iPad cannot communicate directly with the Uniti using Wi-Fi; the iPad connects to your network via Wi-Fi, and through the network to the Uniti.

I know you can run and control Spotify on a computer into the Uniti, without the iPad.  Maybe Tidal works similarly?

If you have Ethernet at the Uniti, you could add a Wi-Fi access point there, using said Ethernet to extend your Wi-Fi bubble to the Garden Room.  Even then, the iPad would connect via that WAP, and communicate with the Uniti through your LAN via the main router.  If you only have one Ethernet jack at the Uniti, you would add a switch to allow the Uniti and new WAP to share the jack.

Yep, Nick has it right.  It's actually quite simple to do (simpler than it sounds!).
