Active speakers and their impact on the Naim sound

Does anyone have experience with active speakers, ATC or others, if so to what extent have they compromised or advanced the Naim sound? What has the tradeoff meant? Does anyone see active speakers as door to new generation of music lovers and audio enthusiasts?

I have active ATC SCM50SL with N272/555PS. Cabling by Studio Connections (phono to XLR, 4m). I'm enjoying it, it does have PRAT.

Peter
I'll have to investigate the Studio connections to go between my 272/555 and SCM40A ...currently got some 4m cables made up my ATC
Did you try others before buying these...which model?

Actually I bought Abbey Road cables which are made by Studio Connections before they became Studio Connections - I think. I don't know for sure. It was a speculative purchase because they were the perfect length and termination, 2ndhand therefore much cheaper and the dealer was prepared to haggle! No chance to try before buying but I'm not unhappy at all; compared to Chord Crimson phono-phono with phono-XLR adapters, there is more detail, more timbre, depth, width, a more natural sound. And plenty of PRAT. I was a bit taken aback when I first installed them because they sounded more different than I expected, but I really like them. Perhaps the Crimson was hampered by the phno-XLR adapter but I had no real opportunity to experiment If not trying Studio Connections the obvious alternative candidates are Naim (clearly!), Tellurium Q and Chord of course. Hope that helps.
