HDX software update / internet radio

Any news on the upcoming HDX software release / internet radio functionality beta test?

Hi Michel,
the longer I think about the more I agree that I have to store all of my music on NAS. But then a product like HDX was the wrong way to go. For that kind of usage you can use the much cheaper NDX. IMO

No, the NDX has no ripping facility...

This means I have to store Musik on the HDX including back up and parts of the Music on a NAS including back up of only this music on NAS (= 4 HDs) . I definitifly don´t like this structure.

Hi Pepe68...

I'm not really sure where you are coming from here ... if you have 800Gb of CDs and you have 500Gb of them on your HDX (backed up on the second drive) and 300Gb of them on a NAS (mirrored or otherwise backed up I assume) then you need 1.6Tb of storage.

*IF* you were able to set up the HDXs two drives as all storage then you'd have 800Gb of data on your HDX and that same data copied to a network storage device which would (again) be 1.6Tb of data.

With 1.6 your twin drive HDX *STILL* backs up to the internal drive so you're not losing any space - it's just that the single drive 1Tb units can now *AUTOMATICALLY* back up to NAS. Maybe I'm missing your point? (Or maybe what you're actually saying is that you really don't want to back up your data at all and just want more storage space on your HDX in which case you could get it upgraded to a single 1Tb drive?)

I'm kind of confused as to what you're trying to achieve and why the functionality of the 1.6 update has made things unworkable for you...

Hi Phil,
sorry for the confusion, but I'm no nativ english speaker :-)

First of all I'm quite happy with the update and everything works fine. But I don't understand why it's not possible to use the total 2x500 GB as storage as an option. Naim also changed the configuration from 2x500 TB to 1x1TB and external back-up. I think the reason behind this change was exactly my point. Having alle music on the HDX = access independen of a running NAS. I think this is what the HDX also is designed for

Quite so. Then there's the matter of a server.

Finally, hope you all enjoy it as much as I do

Hi Pepe,

The dual drive units were designed to be "store" and "backup" and will remain as such ... we have no plans to change this functionality.

The change from two drives to one drive was due to a number of factors - not just increased storage space - but the 1Tb drives do dissipate more heat than the older (smaller) drives and it wasn't possible to have two 1Tb drives in an HDX without the fan cutting in unacceptably often.

This is brilliant and for free. Really happy with the unitiserve one of the best hi fi products I've ever purchased. No issues with it at all.

Thanks Paul Stephenson  for making this happen. Its brilliant ,you definately  rattled the cages when you got back from Canada ,

Loaded the upgrade - its good !!!

Sounds very similar to the Qute IR - maybe a little better (more bass ?)

The Qute can now come out of the 'system' and go on  'standalone' duties elsewhere in the house.

Thanks Naim, the U-Serve is now an even better proposition.

I have problems listening to radio on my IPAD,: Select a station, select play (connecting and buffering, it's displaying) then I choose the triangle, in top - for short it flashes "playing"
and it's showing the square symbol, but then it turn off, triangle again and the nothing ....

I have the very same problem but only when trying to listen to BBC radio 2, all other stations working ok. Can't figure out what's going on here.

Posted on: 27 September 2011 by kiba
I have tried +10 stations, and had 1 working. When later returning to the working station I didn't succeed. The bad part is allso that when having this situation I can't play my record's as they seem to be queing up, waiting for internal problems with the station I choosed. this can take 1 minute or so before I'm abel to play my records again. Any suggestions - why are there people here that have simular problems - and some lucky ones :-)

Tried the to acces the new feature using my computer, but have the same situation (DTC + HArd disk player)

I find the only way to escape from this was to put my serve into standby, funnily I only have the problem with one station and like you it locks everything up in a que. Not sure how to fix this small annoyance.

We have been running the 1.6a software (in its various incarnations as it has progressed through development) for almost 18 months now and both our own testing and the Beta builds that have been out to some of the forum members have not shown up any general issues.

The Internet Radio streams are generated by the individual stations and so there could be specific issues with certain stations that we are unaware of and there could also be issues with ISPs throttling or in some way filtering Internet Radio traffic.

If anyone is having issues with their Internet Radio then perhaps you can drop me an email at phil.harris@naimnet.com (my address is also in the support sticky at the top of every forum) and we can try to diagnose what your problem is likely to be...

Cheers

I guess I am one of the lucky ones. Downloaded the update yesterday and it has all worked flawlessly. Really nice interface too, wel done Naim.

Sound quality is good and so is stability - I live off the beaten track in Malaysia, where Internet speeds can be very patchy, but it has worked brilliantly, even 256 Kbps streams.

Seriously impressed !......Paul

The only station that seems to be a problem is BBC radio 2, could be station related rather than my unitiserve as all other staions tried seem to work fine, unfortunately it happens to be a station we listen to regular. Still pleased with the download though, very good.

Just want to thank Naim again for a great extension to my servers functionality.

The NS01 has an internal DAC with phono outputs, as well as the spdif.

I have connected the phono out into my AV2, which is set to MONO, so I can listen to speech radio via a NAP140 into my ART centre speaker.

The spdif goes to my nDAC for replay via my EAR amps into my Living Voice speakers.

This allows me to save my valves for listening to music, whilst using the Naim amp for speech.

The channels that I have tried have all worked bar one. It is interesting to listen to the varying sound quality, and comparing this to the data rate and the streaming format.

Currently sat here listening to Radio 4 HiDef while I type.

...my only regret it that it arrived just AFTER the Proms had finished!

Yes, very much so.

A great product made even better.  Easy to follow instructions and a flawless installation.  Thanks to the team at Naim, a great job.

Who can help?

Started the upgrade on the UnitiServe over an hour ago.

User interface still says:

'Busy with firmware upgrade, don't turn off' (in Dutch).

How long does the upgrade take (in minutes/hours)?

Thanks for the support.

Henk

Should take about ten minutes.
