Mac owners!
Posted by: dave marshall on 31 August 2011
Hi Guys,
Just returned from the Leeds Summer Streaming Event, and one of several questions I put the the Naim folk present was yet another enquiry as to how much longer we Mac users might have to wait until the desktop client software becomes available.
The answer was "we're working on it right now", though with no real clue as to when it will be published.
So, nothing new there then, I won't be holding my breath, I'm afraid.
I know this is not exactly a new topic, but the reply received represents the official viewpoint, as of today.
Maybe if everyone were to add their thoughts on this, in an attempt to show the Kremlin just how many there are of us, whose HDX's etc are limping along, with limited functionality, then the whole process might be speeded up.
After all, I may be wrong, but every printer I've bought for years now has always included software for both Mac and Windoze.
Names please, and Naim...........take note, there's a substantial number of less than happy people out here, who've signed up for the streaming revolution.........(it's the future!), ......only to find that things are less than perfect.
Regards,
Dave.

Me too waiting for a Mac client to go with my lovely UnitiServe.
I would love to add missing cover art.
Come on Naim.....

I was under the impression the roadmap was to improve the flash web interface to allow you to achieve all this so the software then becomes platform independent.
Makes sense to me.

" - flash aaah.. worst software in the universe"
Flash is simply overkill - a veritable resources hog - php would be better - which is what Vortexbox uses ... Hmm

I too am waiting - my pc is on it's last legs and I can't wait too be shot of it but it needs to be kept for the sole purpose of working with my serv.
Seems really odd to me to offer the iPad as the preferred device to operate the serve but then not be able to use client software on the mac/pad
Good news that naim are on the case.

Another frustrated mac user here too who would love to be able to amend stuff on my UnitiServe using the mac rather than having to wheel out my very very old pc....come on Naim!!

You have to take it positive:
first, this is an official annoucement Naim has chosen to do a dedicated MAC OS version, not a patched flash one.
second, programers at Naim have started to work on it.
So you will have it, Mac users, it is just a matter of time...

Hdx and mac owner here, i'm waiting to.

I too am a Mac user with an HDX, and would love to have DTC for OS X. Emulation software like VMWare plus a legal copy of Windoze is expensive and overkill for just one application.

A cheap netbook seems a reasonable solution

html 5 or php for control point - Flash is nasty stuff
Hyper is a fine and rapidly developing html 5 animation app - fantastic but Mac only of course.

Hi everyone
Santa bought me a UnitiServe for Christmas
Anyone any idea as to when the Mac desktop client might be available?
See your posts from September so assume still waiting?

======================
I don't use Flash, if an application/site relies on this junk then I look elsewhere.
I hope Naim drops Flash in the Trash, where it belongs.
Vortexbox works great so I'm sure Naim could create its own VB variant.

I wouldn't be so banal about it. If something is in flash then I use it. Works fine on my macs. And no doubt on yours too.

HDX DAC SPS2 Uniti Nat 01 user wants it too, please. The future is Apple, not Windoze

Naim could still licence Vortexbox and join in with development like Sonore - version 2 is an absolute peach - Logitech Media Server support is now stable for those that want it - support for wav is there for those using dig out
Remote management is a breeze - video ripping could be simpler and you can build any kind of server you want if you are that way inclined - come on Naim you know you want to

Dons tin hat and body armour....
the most effective way to improve the lot of the most people would be to port nstream and nserve to Android...
Posted on: 31 December 2011 by Tog
Nothing wrong with Android - patent lawyers certainly love it - the problem is with the tablet hardware - while Apple have the best tablet ( full HD next iteration ) premium companies like NAIM are going to focus on iOS rather than Android.
I think the next big issue for NAIM will be the rise of the pure digital amp (Purepath HD /TI) - no need for dac / isolated from noise and very efficient.
Once you rely on a digital source why not leave the analogue conversion to the last possible moment - the speaker?

Please, please, as soon as possible. I will be a happy bunny when the Mac version does arrive.

Fortunately my company laptop is Windows, but unfortunately I have to bring it home when I want to fix track info, album art, etc., for my uServe. At home we're all Apple.

Hi Tog
Can you expand a little on WAV support in Vortexbox? I can’t see any mention on their website, still say’s flac & mp3 support.
Is this achieved by transcoding flac to WAV? On dig out only?
WAV support on both Upnp and dig out would make Vortexbox far more attractive to me.
Thanks in advance

I have loads of missing artwork on my Unitiserve a Mac desk top version can't come quick enough for me please please Naim make us Mac owners happy in 2012.
Posted on: 01 January 2012 by Tog
Hi Peter - the guys at VB love flac and see little point in worrying about wav or aiff - however,
Sonore's version will support most file types via dig out - they licence and develop VB so I will try and find out what the exact differences are.
