pmc fact 12

I had a chance to hear the pmc fact 12 with the new naim nap 250 dr, nac 282, and supercap dr and they sounded amazing .The nap 300 had a slightly better grip on the low end but the 250 sounded better in the mids to my ears .Anybody Demo these speakers they where not struggling with the 250 as some people surgest... the new nap 250 is better than the older non dr version so this might have something to do with it.

Interesting, Johnny5. What was the source?

cdx2 with xps dr

Thanks.

At 84dB, a pretty low sensitivity, I would have thought a 250DR might struggle a bit to drive the Fact 12s adequately.

they don't struggle impedance 8 ohms they will not go a loud as 89db speakers with 250 or the 300.. can not say what the 500 is like they had not got one on demo.

I'm sure the listening level and room size play a huge role in how well the amp copes too.

Fact12 have always had special fascination for me too. It's a shame Naim and PMC don't consider active options for their consumer ranges. Though the same could be said of almost any speaker people use.

Yes the room was 11/14ft.

I’ve listened to the Fact 12 in two different rooms - but not with Naim amplification. Nevertheless in case of interest these are my observations: in one room the soundstage seemed rather compressed, the other not at all, but apart from that they sounded great in both, with great clarity and with bass that belied their diminutive (relative) size. The first room, purely from mental image, was maybe 20x12 feet, firing across, with speakers some way out from wall and listening position very close to wall, and the second maybe 15x18 feet firing down the length, speakers and sofa both well out from walls (measurements purely rough estimates from visual memory of the occasions).

The rest of the system was the same in each case, amp being a Bryston 4Bsst, which is rated at 300w continuous into the F12’s nominal 8Ω. I did think the speakers might prove a bit limiting sound-level wise in a large room with their low sensitivity, but only at extreme listening levels: the same amp is rated 500w continuous into my present 4Ω speakers, which with a sensitivity of 89dB means a potential maximum 7dB higher before the amp clips (assuming in both cses the speakers can handle). I have managed to take mine to the amp’s limits on occasion with very enthusiastic playing - but such levels are unwise for more than brief occassions.
