quadraspire racks
Posted by: dektop100 on 14 March 2018
i'm considering a pair of these two support my various 'boxes' - these a currently arranged along 'brain and brawn' lines. Budget would limit the purchase to a single item to start with. A couple of questions:
1. What would give the most benefit? Rack for preamp or poweramps+PSU's. My guess is the latter.
2. Quadraspires can have spikes or flat feet (no casters thanks!) - presumably spikes are better, but they'll cause some damage to my exposed floor boards. Are flat feet 'no good'?
3. The columns racks come in two sizes: 19 or 32mm. Is there a preference or is the choice down to the mass you intend to support?
thanks if you can help!
Does the QPlus enable me to stack Naim boxes? I know that's not ideal, but I'm really short on space and can't use racks.
They won’t have been designed for use that way, but it’s worth a go! Alester develops his products using his NDS.
And wow - are they expensive! At one British online dealer, a set of the QPlus Reference Feet (I'm hoping it's for 4) is £900!
Yeah they are. The reference is the X reference rack level. Qplus advanced is SVT and regular Qplus is Q4 rack level

Good to know, wasn't clear to me that the q plus aren't to be used with the racks
suppose could look at cera balls to try under the 282 (is way down the priority list though as new amp on the shopping list next)

There is an article on The Audio Beat about using Ikea aptillig boards, cutting them up to make feet and "draining" vibration. I tried this and it works for me.
Then at a Bristol show I had a conversation in the Quadraspire room about using the cut out from Booplinth to turn something like Russ Andrews cone feet.
My experience is that hand turning is fraught with high levels of waste and wears tools out very quickly, so not a cheap exercise, but one £15 board and a handsaw might give you an indication if it will work for you.

I bought the original rack just over three years ago. I then added two more shelves last autumn. They were a perfect match. The bamboo is probably different to veneer, as it doesn’t seem to change colour over time. I’d say that you can buy with confidence.
What do you think about bamboo Hungry?
I’m not sure what you are asking, so all I can say is that I’m very pleased with the rack. One thing I really like about Fraim is that it makes things very clear and unmuddled, which makes the music easy to listen to. The bamboo SVT does the same.
I have not compared the bamboo to the standard SVT and bought the bamboo version on looks and recommendation from my dealer. It’s really nice how you can see the bamboo fibres on the edges, and I like the fact that the shelves are solid rather than veneered MDF. Unlike the Q4 with standard shelves, a bamboo SVT is surprisingly weighty.
a bit criptic I was actually.
Bamboo appeals a lot to me especially as I wanted to get the SVT wall shelf and have had very positive feedbacks from friends having turned to it so far.
But I like the fraim design ,exactly what it does as you describe ,also have some spare balls&bearings ,still glassless though to test it though, to simulate its behavior on one shelf of my Isoblue but think it would not be actually the same thing that would lead me to consider the SVT as an alternative to plain fraim, then ..sounds promising.

Nordost have some pyramid isolators which are specifically designed to go under your Black boxes, I listened to a demo at the recent Bristol Show.
They seemed to work well, and are far cheaper then the Quadresphire equivalent
thanks for all the comments!
I owned the basic Quadraspire years ago, and bought it at the same time as my Naim equipment. I had spent so much at that point I could not bring myself to spend any more $$. So I went 'value' for basic Quadraspire.
I did after a couple of years find new Fraim, at a nice discount (they can be found), and have been extremely happy with it. And it's removed all of the 'what if' talk in my mind. Naim on Fraim and that's that.
Depending on where your budget is at.....
I purchased the Q4 with Bamboo Shelves with spikes along with the QX7 Isolation feet for the equipment racks.
Dealer would be happy to take them back in trade if I care to move up to the SVT, Fraim, or ........
I am quite happy with the Q4 set up for my two box Naim system.
Good luck with your search and decision.
Seems odd that no one mentioned Custom Design as a option to Isoblue, Hutter, and Quadraspire. I moved from an Isoblue to a Milan Custom Design and preferred the livelier presentation. While searching for more info on the Bristol show, I came across a few images of Naim gear sitting on Custom Design paired with Kudos.
How much does a brand new SVT bamboo rack cost, per shelf and legs, in the UK?
Thanks

On the Quadrasphire UK web page "SVT Product Builder" the SVT Bamboo rack are listed a £280.00 per shelf which includes base shelf with spikes.
I'm using Hutter which is a bit hard to source now but I managed to buy a base and three shelves for £250 on a used site which is less than the price of just one Fraim Lite or SVT Bamboo shelf so my advice would be to look on the used market.
I would think that apart from possibly a full fat Fraim all of the other suspects Isoblue, SVT QS and Hutter are quite similar quality and presentation and so it is down to how you like the look of them. Custom Design also make great products I have had their speaker stands and still own a wall shelf.
