FM switch off cancelled

On Radio 4's Broadcasting House program there was a mention in the newspaper reveiw that there was an article in the Sunday Telegraph that there will be an announcement tomorrow (19th March 2018) that there will not be a FM switch off in the UK - we will have a dual system ie FM and DAB.
Well Bob I’m enjoying the internet radio - particularly Jazz FM - on the Qb but I’m keeping the Nat 05 on the main system - at least for the time being. It’s DAB in the car I just can’t get on with.

I use my NAT01 (with Ron Smith Galaxie 17) to listen to BBC Radio 3 FM almost exclusively. The NAT01 is probably my best source. Whilst a live broadcast can be stunning, I am surprised that many times I'll hear a CD being played on, say, Record Review, which sounds better than the CD which I've ripped to NS01 and streamed through the NDS. Long may BBC Radio 3 continue to broadcast such fine quality on the FM waveband.
BTW, I'm listening to 'In Tune' as I type.
Clive,
Seeing your post BTW.....Just thought I would share as I am listening to Paul Jones - An hour of Rhythm and Blues on Radio 2 -As always sounding brilliant but not off the 01 but my A@R Cambridge T21 which was a purchase in the local paper for £15....best £15 I think I have ever spent. It doesn't have quite the smooth organic sound of my 01 but it sure doesn't disgrace it self at all.
All the DAB tuners I have heard always sound really boring to my ears - awful things.
Another great tuner that I use for AM - Radio 5 and Talk Sport is my NAD 4020 A. Which is nice.Love the Valve like glow behind the tuning range indicator. This isn't mine but from an image search - Good piece of kit and nicely styled.
Cheers Ian
The NADs and Sansuis were great runners.
Similarly, I can vouch for my one-time Rogers T75.
Naim, please release a new Classic NAT01 to celebrate this sane resurrection of FM radio !

I would not hold yer breath, on both counts
I wonder if there is a market for a shoe box FM/Internet tuner?
on reflection perhaps it’s called a NDX?

Shoe box like this you mean? Bought this in about 1997, marvellous bit of kit and until this week's news re switch off being under review was something that I've tried to sell numerous times. Looks like there's a good reason to keep it a while longer again. Phew

That looks to be a lovely piece of kit

Thanks, it is. I remember buying it in a shop in Watford town centre one lunchtime and going back to the office with it, and the phrase "four hundred quid for a f....ing wireless? You must be off your chump" came my way. It's served well and keeps coming back into use; when the valve amp with exposed mains + top heavy speakers on stands had to go due to being potentially lethal to small toddlers so a one box unit served as a music source for a while, earlier on when the Arcam FMJ DAB tuner came and went due to DAB not being what was promised, and now the ND5XS has usurped it, maybe for the time being. Who knows. It does sound lovely though. With FM still being around a bit longer it still has a use.

A&R Cambridge T21 for £15!! A bargain indeed. It reminds me of the Armstrong 621 tuner, which is from the same era and which I also admired very much. I guess it’s the wood finish.
