file tagging with Asset

Posted by: jsaudio on 19 March 2018

I'm using Asset on my QNAP, I have Yate tagging software on my Mac and will use db Poweramp to rip CDs to the NAS. I have a NAC 272 streamer pre-amp.

I would like my "The" artists listed not under T instead, for example The Beach Boys listed under B and in order to show other albums in Tidal as you scroll down on the Naim app it has to be listed as The Beach Boys and not Beach Boys or Beach Boys,The or else when you scroll down you see nothing.

So there are settings in Asset under Artist and Album Handling and also Artist Sort Handling options. I have tried a few combinations but cant see to get it to do what I want as described above.

Hope my description of the problem didn't confuse.

Has anyone solved this issue?

From the Asset QNAP Manual page:

The Artist & Album Handling  has 3 modes (examples using The Beetles):

  • Smart: this mode keeps the artist text as The Beetles, yet sorts the artist under 'B'
  • Value, The: places the on the end, for example Beetles, The
  • Leave as is: does not adjust the displayed value or sorted position

I am pretty sure I use the "smart" mode (but am not at home so can't confirm).

Tried Smart mode and currently on Value,The but it sorts and lists under Beach Boys,The which does not allow you to see other albums by The Beach Boys as you scroll down from Tidal. You see Tidal will show the other albums from the artist your playing from your local NAS only if listed exactly as its listed in Tidal

thanks Nick

Ah, ok - sorry, am not a Tidal user. Hope you get this sorted.

As far as I'm aware, you can't change the view options in Tidal, so you would have to put up with 'the' artists listed under T to enable Tidal to link to your UPnP library. So I think you have 2 options. Either use the search option at the top of the page to find the artist's Tidal and local content, or, at a price, try Roon.

Roon can sort that for you - can also group related artists if you want. I find it invaluable when browsing.

Hopefully a firmware update for NAC 272 will have "native" Roon because I assume I cant have it now, right?

Thanks for all the help

I think you’ll need one of the new generation of streamers to run Roon, or add an Airplay device such as Airport Express.

Minimserver can ignore the in albums, artist, albumartist. And it run very well on qnap. For this you don‘t need roon.
