Firmware 2.3.1 - Uniti Range
Posted by: Obsydian on 19 March 2018
Very boring plain Hdmi log.
But am I imagining it or is anyone else's Nova, Atom and Star sounded different - sorry I'm breaking in some new speakers so maybe a speaker change, but this does seem Nova related.
Well I just did the update and I could swear that my Star sounds even sweeter than before
Ok then two of us are right or mad : )
Oh no guys I have to do.....it
I never got a choice just updated.
Be good if someone could listen to some tracks, upgrade and report.
I've been listening quite a bit the last few weeks, so familiar, but breaking in new speakers for just over a week. That said this to me is clearly Nova driven.
Sounds leaner bass wise, but allot more detail and speed. Note sure I like it, can you downgrade firmware?
If anything my Atom is fuller and warmer, certainly not leaner, it’ll be interesting to see if it’s any more stable
mad as hatters the lot of you

Thanks for confirming what my wife was telling.....
So having listened to the Atom for a few hours last night there is no real change after the upgrade, I still have the same issues with the app and the display still acts up so it's a bit disappointing on that front, no feature changes or enhancements either. I dont have the HDMI option so it would be interesting to hear if that's actually been sorted.
This update just does what it says in the release notes. It wasn't supposed to fix anything else.....

Just played a handful of tracks before and after update.
I'm tired but post update the sound seems a lot more 'digital' and less involving. Seem to have lost a lot of bass/richness and several tracks that would normally sound brilliant now sound quite 'so so' - there seems to be a richness/sonorousness missing from acoustic instruments.
Feel as though I need to push the volume higher than before too.
I may be imagining it of course, I hope so.....as at the minute it's sounding far too clinical.
(This is on a Nova)

I realise that but it was a long time coming so I thought it might have captured more issues
Soon I think....

I upgraded my Nova a couple of nights ago, and replayed the final track of the album I’d just played, didn’t notice anything major different. Played an album last night which was new to me, didn’t notice any difference in presentation.
There isn't anything different. That's why....

Given people seem to be reporting different experiences, I thought I’d share mine.
Sounds exactly the same...before the update

Yes of course. I was agreeing with you.

Ah sorry, comprehension fail on my part.

I agree, it shouldn't have changed anything other than the fixes listed (though could) but my Nova now seems anaemic, harsh, forward and brash.
I've unpowered and restarted to no avail.
I thought it may have just been tiredness earlier, but the Nova is now fatiguing to listen to (via internal amp).

I suspect this is possible, though not officially supported.
Would love to revert to convince myself I'm imagining things, or not!

More i listen - the more i dislike it. I have ruled out my speakers.
Anyone know how to source the old firmware and downgrade (assume it must be USB flashable).
Do the units automatically update or is there a user input?
With Roon I have update set to manual and always wait a few days, keeping an eye on their forum, before I upgrade.
Interesting quote from Steve in the DAC thread.
I've worked in the Hifi industry for a long time and I'm a fairly no nonsense engineering minded kinda chap, but I do find the interaction of digital electronics+software vs the musical presentation that comes out is a fascinating puzzle. You really have to think outside of conventional wisdom to move to the next level of the game. For sure it's not voodoo, but to unravel what is going on when equipment like a top end Audio Precision analyser can no longer guide you is really heavy stuff.

Better late than never !!!!!!
Was not aware the fix for hdmi dropout was released but I'll rush home tonight to get my unit updated.
I think you have to "request" the unit to update, it won't do it automatically. It requires an action from you within the app.
I'm glad that finally released that fix, I'm very curious to know whether it really fix the sound dropouts.

Thinking back - it popped up in the app and i must have assumed you have to update so clicked it : (

With the old streamers, you downloaded the software to a computer to do the update, so you could store them and revert quite easily. With the 'over the air' updates on the new streamers, you don't have that option, so I think you would have to ask Naim if there is any way for them to make the old firmware available.
