Where is number 4. ????
Untill then it is going back in my cabinet...
Very boring plain Hdmi log.
But am I imagining it or is anyone else's Nova, Atom and Star sounded different - sorry I'm breaking in some new speakers so maybe a speaker change, but this does seem Nova related.
Tidal ok here but my ripped cds started to act strange. Tracks are played at random but random option is not activeted. Any ideas?
It's your network, fridge, microwave, TV etc you need to turn off everything and ask your neighbours to do the same after this normal operation will resume may only last a day though.
While I'm glad most people have seen no issues, I remain convinced my Nova no longer sounds as it did.
Yes it streams ok via NAS, Roon and with glitches Qobuz (Qobuz app I feel), but the audio quality is simply lacking compared to before the update - it's just completely lifeless - can't explan it but no longer enjoying the device at all.
Support tell me it might be something else in my system but nothing else has changed and having not blasted the volume to wreck the speakers all other variables are the same - same cables, speakers, network, ISP, NAS.
Next step I guess is to ask the dealer to compare against one of their demo models.
Yes get your dealer to bring his Nova over to your house, take it from there. Hope it’s sorted quickly
I remember when I had my Muso I was playing Apple Music through it via airplay and accidentally I whacked the volume up full blast for a few seconds on my ipad, now if you’ve heard a muso full tilt its pretty loud! I turned it down immediately and was concerned I’d damaged the speakers, I checked everything and all seemed fine but I was convinced in my mind I’d damaged the unit and that it dident sound right compared to before, I never really got over it and it plagued me until I traded up. Now of course I hadent actually damaged it and in reality it sounded just as it did before but once that nagging doubt sets in your mind won’t give up, it’s some sort of expectation bias wrecking your head! I suspect you might have the same problem! My Atom sounds perfect after the upgrade and other Nova owners have reported theirs to be fine too so it’s unlikely yours has changed.

Hi Mercky
I didn't crank up the volume so doubt that's the issue.
Maybe some kind of pre-bias as I'd read Obsydian's post, but I think I'm fairly objective.
Before I updated I played several tracks, updated, then played them again and those particular ones went from being spine-tingly good to so-so and uninspiring and so has everything else since. Yes the music plays, just there's no soul or depth to it whatever I play.

I guess the worst that can happen is that they sound the same and I feel the need to upgrade

I wasn’t suggesting you did I was merely relating my experience and how your head can play tricks with you. Having said that maybe something did go a bit weird with the update so the suggestion of borrowing another unit is a good one
....and of course you’ll have to get someone else to connect up both units in turn and do a double blind test otherwise the expectation bias will mess with you again!

Ideally yes!
Oddly, the other half has just come in to the room and commented how flat/dull the music I'm playing on the Nova sounds as I've played several of these tracks to her recently. Kind of encapusltes it - all depth/warmth/vitality has gone and it just sounds distinctly average.
Merck’s, it’s not clear how long you have had the Nova, they do dip and then surprise you with an even better sound?

Have you tried power cycling it?

Good suggestion, but tried that - might be worth another go.
[@mention:1566878604014936] & [@mention:71539985729025468], I faced exactly the same problem after the update. The magical sound was gone.
Couldn't enjoy it anymore, deep regrets buying the Nova for € 5k, especially after 2 years using Yamaha musiccast almost without any problem.
So I did last night a factory reset, renewed all settings and more, and Yes,the Naim sound is back.
I love the looks, the sound, don't like the lack of updates (app) and the attitude of the company to their customers.
( and was it so difficult with the latest update to programm the backlit button on the remote, to off.... ?)

Thanks for posting - is the factory reset initiated on the device front panel, as the App option doesn't seem to do much?
Yes, I did it on the front, settings, factory settings. After that I had to pair the remote again and all settings.

Thanks will try this later - I think the app only resets tha app itsefl.
I have to say I hear no difference before and after update. Still sounds pretty good to me (Nova).
Mercky posted:So having listened to the Atom for a few hours last night there is no real change after the upgrade, I still have the same issues with the app and the display still acts up so it's a bit disappointing on that front, no feature changes or enhancements either. I dont have the HDMI option so it would be interesting to hear if that's actually been sorted.
I understand that an update for the app (Android but may apply equally to IOS) would be appearing close to the time of the firmware upgrade, in telephone conversation with Naim support. No sign of it yet but, for me, sorely needed.

If true, I can't see why on earth they bothered with the update a week or so ago....

I agree, but there it is, on naim's web site, so I can only assume it's true...
I would expect Naim to be the source of announcement & not to have news from a dealer spread around this way. And are you going to take responsibility to apologise to all the forum threads if Naim decide not to release ???
Please don't shoot the messenger!! I am communicating that which has been directly reported to me today from my dealer.
The link is direct to naim's web site. If this proves to be false, I will apologise - of course - not that it is much by way of compensation for yet another disappointment!!
Nevertheless, as far as I can tell, the source IS naim!! Check the link!!
