Naim App frustrations

Posted by: Redboxfile on 20 March 2018

When I select the Naim app I can scroll through artists and albums and select the album I wish to play, It plays fine and all is well until I awaken the app to choose a different album or artist. The only options are to pause the album playing or choose a different track from the album playing. I am unable to go "back" to make a new selection from my library. I have to close the app and then open it again to see my library then select a different artist or album

It happens on both my Netgear readynas and my PC running "ASSET" so it is a Naim app issue, unless of course it's a "me" issue in which case any help would be very welcome!

I've had the very same issues with using the Android app on my onePlus5T, along with other issues.  In the end I ended up borrowing a work mates old iPad, he no longer uses, and the iOS app works much better. It's a shame Naim doesn't give much love to the Android community.

Recently, I have the chance to home demo the DCS network bridge and after using DCS app. Naim app is so very much better.

Use the DCS app and weep.

Thanks that’s very useful to know

But knowing that other developers are even less competent doesn't make the Naim app any better or make the Naim app development team competent to work on a UI app that depends on network communications.

Huge.....they do have a vacancy for a mobile App developer on the Naim website. You could put everyone out of their misery and apply, best of luck in advance.

I'm not getting back into that game again.

Three years ago I retired from working for a well known 'high street name' in financial services having reached the highest position I could as a computer techie whilst remaining in a 'hands-on' position in the design & development sphere

Part time consultancy maybe, development at the code face: no, can't be bothered with the politics!

If Naim are bringing the Android app development in house, that bodes well for the future; I think that Naim staff will far better understand the needs of the system users.

Oh well enjoy the retirement, I know I am. I sometimes like to see what Naim are recruiting to see if there are any clues. A while back I stumbled upon the Linn careers site and they were heavily recruiting FPGA software engineers.

Yes, interesting, and FPGAs are an interesting technology.

In a previous job, more than 20 years ago, the chief electronic developer and I (lead on the computing side) made a proposal to the board to change to using them as the key control component in the electronics.  They turned us down on the basis of perceived risk - they refused to accept that we'd be able to rectify or improve functionality of equipment in the field, or if we did it, they said it would damage new sales!  They totally missed the point and refused to look beyond the ends of their own noses.  Later developments have shown that we were right!

And yes I'm really enjoying retirement (good to dump the stress isn't it) and a complete new fun 'hobby job' of writing games (N.B. not computer games!).

Yes indeed good fun, just getting back into hifi and music after getting a bit burnt out working for a living, lucky to have a good final salary pension.
