Uniti CORE set-up issues - wrong HD format

Posted by: jGolf53 on 21 March 2018

The dealer that installed and set-up the hard-drive in my new CORE selected the wrong format, NTFS instead of HFS+ for my iMac Apple network.  I did not discover this until much later...and after I had ripped 1k CDs and as many file downloads from the network.  And after I had created a backup HD in HFS+ .  I now continually have quirky issues...i.e. a few time all music on the CORE disappeared and was un-retrievable and then returning a day or two later.  What are my options:  1) reformat the internal hard-drive - what are the implications of doing this?  Will I lose all of my music files and have to start over again? or 2) do nothing; I worry that the network and the CORE will become unstable; especially if I want to copy Apple Lossless files to the CORE via the network.  Are there other options?

Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated.....

cheers,

jp

I suggest you email Phil Harris at Naim for a definitive answer. info@naimaudio.com. Or call them.

If you have successfully backed up your music and you can confirm that, for example by looking at the backup drive with your Mac, then you can proceed by  reformatting the internal drive and then restoring the music from your backup. This should all work fine, but I am unclear why all your music vanished for a couple of days and if it were me I would be concerned to sort that out before doing anything else. If the backup HD isn't connected to your Core, then the fact it was formatted in a different way shouldn't matter and there is no reason why your internal disc wouldn't go on working fine so far as your streamer and the Naim app are concerned.

Phil may have some suggestions but I suspect the old answer of "it's a network issue" is probably where you will end up (and he won't be able to log in and have a look as you are Mac).

JP, you appear to have two similar threads running concurrently.  I will close this one and let the other one run.

A suggestion:  contact Naim support for help on this.
