Connection of Powerline

Posted by: Winson on 28 March 2018

Hi, my system is 282/HCDR/250DR/nDAC. i hv 2 powerlines. One is definitely going to my nDAC and to wall socket. But i hv limited wall socket, so cannot hv everything gg to wall. Thats y i bought a niagara 1000 power strip.

where would be a better fit for my second powerline?

option 1:

To connect to niagara 1000. Rest of eqpt go to niagara except nDAC.

option 2:

To connect to HCDR and to wall socket.

option 3:

to connect to HCDR and to niagara hi gain socket and shift my 250dr to wall socket using stock cable.

many thanks for your advise. ????

You've identified three options. My advice would be to try each over a period long enough to become accustomed to the sound. Revisit them as needed and decide for yourself. Otherwise, you're relying on others' ears and perceptions to determine what ought to work best for your ears. Use trial and error, and construct your system for your own edification.

True. But just wanna hear some opinion and if anyone had tried it.

My delaer is suggesting option 4:

niagara 1000 use naim stock pwr cord, nDAC w PL to wall, 250dr w PL to wall. HiCap DR use stock cable to niagara 1000 hi gain outlet.

And just to add to your options, do try one of the PLs on the Napsc powering the control section of the 282. I know that idea may sound implausible but when I tried it I couldn't believe the performance improvement that I heard. That was the first PL I bought and how I used it. Happily with these options, they cost nothing to try.

Thx MDS for ur sharing. But napsc, like wat u mentioned, power only the control part. I read before that it only control the volume motor n the lightings, hence i couldnt convince myself through any form of theory that it will help improve the SQ.

I think the Napsc does a bit more than that e.g. controlling the relays through which the single passes.  At least I think that's what Adam Meredith on here suggested.

Some other members have tried it and also got a performance improvement that they liked. Some others didn't. It only takes a few minutes.

I agree with putting a power line on the naps. Work dell for me when I had a 282. One on the nap 250 also recommended.

Thx for sharing. New insights for me.

Assuming your wall socket is a double. Definitely have one PL going into the 1000 as its benefits will be contagious. The other PL depends on your own ears, maybe the NAP into the other wall socket depending on your speakers ?

Not sure if this is the best place to ask, but can anybody suggest some good power strips.  I've heard that Nordost make one.  Any other suggestions?

In the USA, AV Options is the authorized by NAIM for servicing, restoring and maintaining Naim Audio amplification components and systems. They also offer power strips on their web site.

Here's an option. Buy another PowerLine.

I found the Wiremold L10320 power strip excellent with Naim gear. Available for ~ $110 in the US, it's the same base power strip that AV Options upgrades on their site. I formerly used a CablePro NANA power strip and found the Wiremold had superior mid-range coherence with better flow to the music.

Before I purchased 2 power lines my research on the forum indicated a wide divergence of opinion on priority for their use. My choice was CDX2, nDac, xpsdr, supercap dr or 250dr. With my dealer we felt 1st choice was xpsdr. Possibly, surprisingly 2nd PL went on supercap and not the nDac. We both felt there was a clear advantage using it on second power supply and not the dac.

But as most people suggest, best to try out all the possible options yourself. Either way, I’m sure they’ll improve things!

FWIW I had posted the following on the subject. I had found Order of priority as source analog first, SC-DR second and 250.2 last. The latter contrary to most common view at the time. ????
