Default player

I am new to Naim and Streaming. I have a Uniti Atom and stream via Spotify. I use an Ipad iOS.11.2.6 with the Naim app. Despite opening Spotify via the Naim app, it seems the default player is the Ipad itself. Once I change the player to the Atom it seems to accept this for some time and then reverts back to the Ipad as the default player if I have not used the Atom for a day or so. I never want to use the Ipad to play Spotify, is it possible make the Atom the default player? Thanks for your help.

I think you may find that this is the way Spotify Connect works. I don’t know what you think about the sound quality from Spotify but I find it unlistenable, and you are hearing nothing of what your lovely new Atom is capable of. At least try Tidal, which is lossless.

Thanks for the advice, I am using Spotify premium. I have got a CD player connected to the Atom so I guess I can compare that with Spotify. Streaming is a new novelty for me so I have been listening to a lot of new music rather listen to my CD collection. I do plan to rip some of my CDs with DBpoweramp and get a NAS drive eventually. I have no experience of assessing or discriminating the sound quality against sample rate.

Spotify is OK for a quick listen before a purchase, but for long term listening Tidsl is much better. I did get a free 6 month Tidal trial with my Nova, surprised you did not with Atom. Might be worth a call to dealer or Naim.

Can you not sign out of the Spotify desk top and then sign in when prompted within the Naim app? If you like what Spotify premium does and it suits your home life then that is great and don't worry you don't need any vast experience to discriminate what sounds good against what doesn't just your OWN ears. If you start letting other people tell you what sounds good then you will end up not trusting your own ears.
