555ps idle speculation

I was kinda faced with the same ..... I decided that another psu would just add to the shrine....and I would get a very nice upgrade just with a single dr ..... maybe in a couple years I will get an ND555

if your 555PS is due for service, you might as well DR it. It may also make sense to have it DR’d anyhow, in time for the new ND range...

I have this suspicion that non-DR PS works better with a non-DR era sources (NDX, CDX2, etc...). But NDS (and I suspect the new ND platform) was alread designed with DR power supplies in mind.... Just an idle speculation though

Its 9 years old so taking 15 as the service interval of the 500 series there could be some time to go. The system it will be going into is all DR and none of the transformers hum, the 555ps transformer does hum however though not intrusively. 

I’d just leave it then to be honest. It’s not exactly broken, is it?

I have one non-DR 555PS (re-capped last year) and use it with my NDX. Did not want it DR’d. And that is a deliberate choice.
The other 555PS DR powers my NDS - again, a deliberate choice.

I found my 555PS didn’t seem at ease with my CDX2 or NDX... the NDAC to my ears preferred the non DR 555PS ... and the NDS preferred the 555PSDR... So indeed it depends what you are connecting, but I think you are right to assume more recent components will be optimised for the 555PSDR.. (or XPS2 DR etc)

I'd ring a few dealers. I had a 555PS-DR and a non DR on on my NDS. The offers I got on trade in, as opposed to conversion were very good. My ever helpful dealer took them all into consideration and made a better one. It's worth some conversations.
