New streamers - still no Qobuz?
Posted by: Jarl on 02 April 2018
Any news anywhere about the possibility of inclusion of the streaming service Qobuz on NAIM-streamers? Why does NAIM only support a CD- or high-res quality streaming service that is owned by a bunch of rappers and that seems to be very much focused on glorifying gang related violence every single time you open their app or navigate to their home page? Or may be any suggestions on how to enable un-compromised listening to Qobuz?
Not a Naim solution, but Audirvana offers Qobuz integration, as well as Tidal. (That said, though I use Audirvana, I don’t stream from either Q or T, preferring to download and store music in my own store.)
All the new streamers offer native support for Chromecast built-in via which Qobuz can be streamed. ????

Thanks Chag! That sounds like a very pracical solution. But what about SQ? I am currently using ND5 XS btw.
Chromecast is Naim’s intended solution to the ever changing list of streaming services that people want to use. Unfortunately, it seems that the way that Qobuz (and others) have implemented Chromecast is not great, which doesn’t help matters.
Chromecast does not support gapless playback, I have found after plugging it into my ND5-XS. I've had it for several months and hardly use it for this reason. Also, it's a minor nuisance having to switch to the Qobuz app every time I want to listen.
Audirvana is quite good but I have to use it over wifi in my setup and it won't play 24/192 files for me in that configuration.
My personal favourite solution is mConnect Player which installs on an iPad or iPhone much as the Naim app does. You can buy it on the App Store for £5.99, I think. Using mConnect I can play my whole library plus stream from Qobuz and also Tidal (if I wanted to). The interface takes a little getting used to; it's not as slick as the Naim app but it does do everything I want. It also now supports gapless playback, which it didn't before.
There is another method which is to install BubbleUPnP server on your music server (I use a Synology). Then install either the Lumin or Linn Kazoo apps on your iPad (or whatever) as a control point. This is a bit more of a "techy" solution but it has worked for a lot of people. For me the BubbleUPnP server would occasionally stop running and had to be restarted, so I stopped using it. This option does have the advantage of being completely free, apart from your Qobuz subscription, of course.

Ha ha. So true.
Besides what has already been said one can also use the Bubble app alone without any need to install the Bubble server first. The Bubble app supports gapless playback as well as it supports streaming from Qobuz Tidal etc.....

Is the Bubble app available for iOS now? It used to only be available for Android.
Forgot to mention that, you are right. I use android of course....
The new Uniti firmware does not support gapless playback from BubbleUPnP server. Listening to gapless stuff from Qobuz is now a nightmare.
Which is utterly annoying.
I just checked on my ND5-XS and gapless playback on Qobuz through BubbleUPnP server still works with the new 4.6.0 firmware. Frustrating on the Uniti though, when you've found a way around the hardware's limitations and get scuppered by an update.
I don't know if mConnect Player works with a Uniti. There's a free "lite" version in the app store that you could try out.
I’m lucky in that the Star’s a loaner while my amps get DR’d. So eventually I’ll be back with the NDX and Dave as source, if they’d stuffed the NDX firmware I’d be forming an angry mob. I’ve got about another month to put up with the nuisance on Qobuz.
As an aside, the Star is a fantastic bit of kit and I’d recommend it to anyone in that budget range. Just a shame there’s no Qobuz integration.
My experience with the Uniti Nova - confirmed by others in other threads - is that bubbleupnp will not work gapless for Qobuz and aurdivana has problems maintaining a connection. Both work fine with an older Muso.
In another part of this forest, there is quite a lot of discontent with Qobuz. Best to stand back for a little while?
For me, I’m looking forward to ND555 being a Roon endpoint, with Tidal integrated. Job done.....

Must try this as lack of Chromecast gapless is a huge problem for so many albums I listen to.

Yep, Audirvana 3 has been pretty useless detcting my Nova and drops the connection frequently. Not used it for months as a result.
I don't pay much attention to what opens on the Tidal page, I just select my albums or do a search if I am going to add something new. The items that Tidal promote does not interest me, nor does their video streams, but I do enjoy access via my hi-fi subscription to a ton of music I do not own.
Qobuz not available in the USA so it has never been on my radar. They advertise that they will arrive in 2018 and may check it out in the future. In the meantime I am quite happy with the TIDAL Hi Fi service with my ND5XS previously and my NDX currently!

+1

Indeed and I must say "unfairly" in my opinion. Having recently bought an SoTM SMS-200 for my office system and experimented with various apps (iPeng, Linn, Lamin, mConnect, Burmester) I have come to the conclusion that I prefer the Naim app by a margin.
