New firmware this week
Posted by: blythe on 03 April 2018
Just received an email from Naim:
We are pleased to announce that the Mu-so & Mu-so Qb Multiroom compatibility firmware update v.1.6 will be available to download this week.
This new update will enable you to now seamlessly play music between your Mu-so all-in-one system and other Naim streaming products, as well as fix some known bugs.
The Naim app will notify you when the update for your product becomes available.
I got 3 mails, one for my NDX, one for my Nova and one for my Qbs.
Seems they have claimed to have fixed the TV sound issue that I had as well as many others with the Atom.
How will this update affect NDS’ SQ or any other streamer’s for that matter ? This is the fundamental question. I always wondered who really used Multiroom. ????
Chag -
I have an NDX and a couple of Mu-sos, and also got the email. Have also read the release notes and watched the Naim video but am none the wiser as to what the new update actually improves. I can already “stream multiroom seamlessly” between NDX and the Mu-sos.
Any ideas anyone ? Perhaps it adds high res multiroom functionality ?
The update of the Mu-so looks very straightforward, using the Naim app, but the update of the NDX and other streamers looks a bit fiddly, requiring a pc or Mac and usb cables. It would be far easier if the NDX could update itself in a similar fashion to the Mu-so, I have no idea why this isn’t the case.
Havent yet updated the Mu-sos, it usually wait a while before accepting updates.
Good luck all..

Why not try it, multiroom or no multiroom. Yes the N streamers & others do need cables. Once hooked up is very straightforward, it takes aprx 10 mins. You can ask your dealer to do it, or a local Naim-mate with the cable. You will notice a good SQ improvement with your NDX.
The multi-room improvement is mostly about multi-room between the new Unitis on the one hand and legacy streamers and musos on the other hand. But there are loads of bug fixes and so on rolled up in all the updates.
The NDS, NDX etc can't be updated in the straightforward way that applies to musos and new Unitis because the platform wasn't designed that way and the legacy hardware just doesn't support the new way of doing it.

Oh, is there a SQ side buffet?
All done here - NDS, Unitilite and QB and fired up perfectly - there's always that heart stopping moment with the now legacy stuff but not nearly as fiddly as burning image discs with the HDX. Let's hope that no new bugs have crept in via the rear panel!
As per Dave's excellent question, above.
Will the new firmware add lustre to the beefy prelapsarian monolith of my SU?
Will it lift the veils I've so carefully placed over all furnishings, fixtures and self?
Will I need to hoover?

Yes & quite tasty it is too.

I think you're going to need to hoover, allegedly!
I think I'll wait a while before trying to do it on my NDS and my steam powered XP based laptop. Always a scary activity IMO.
N272 done here. Not to bad, have unplug unit, find burndy link plug, so unit can be placed by Mac and router and wired up, as it is well over a year since last update I thought I would have forgotten what to do, but it all came flooding back.
my update stumbles at finding WiFi and it address. Took a couple of manual goes and some patience, and resist temptation to ‘abort’ finally it found WiFi and came back to lif.
at least this time it remembered input names/settings and presets, not like before.
wourth writing your MAC address down just in case you need it.
If it also has SQ benefits for my NDS it would be a welcome upgrade. Multi room is for me irrelevant even while having and a NDS and a Muso

Likewise for me Bert. One problem is that I can't have done this for approaching two years and any confidence I might have acquired after that experience has long since evaporated.
As for multi room, I do it the Julian Vereker way: turn the volume up and open the doors.

Works for me too ................ a simple solution to a non-existent problem!
UnitiQute 2 done, once the necessary Mac USB drivers were located - see link in V4.4 update on support pages.
Everything appears to be functioning within normal parameters, and I confess sounds ‘better’. Maybe just relief and not having bricked it.

Perhaps Julian had a small house
I’m confused, I should find a link to download USB drivers in the PDF, I can’t see it. Would someone less incompetent than me help me out?

No, it's all a question of volume ............... erm, and not the volume of the house.
I would like to update my Firmware for nac272 but I can’t find a link to the pdf file instructions as mentioned in the naim video as I want to make sure the drivers for my usb cable are up to date. I have done updates manually previously on Uniti and super Uniti.
can anyone help please?

It’s when SWMBO likes to listen to radio at the far end of the cottage - ever heard the time delay on radio with VHF vs DAB and Streaming - enough to drive you nuts. Perhaps we should knock the whole ground floor into one room then we could do a Julian
Eoink, Kassos,
See my post above. There appears to be no link to the Mac/PC USB drivers in the V4.6 download - ooops, eh?
You need to download the V4.4 update from the Naim website firmware updates page - the link is in the PDF inside.
Hope that helps, good luck.

Looks like Naim have forgotten to include it - If you have a new laptop or its your first time to do this you need to install the USB or RS232 driver. YOU CAN FIND THE LINKS IN THE OLD FIRMWARE v4.4 .pdf Find it in Customer Support just below the v4.6 firmware section.
Can’t say I can detect SQ improvements/changes, it sounded good before and still sounds great now ???? but would do update anyway so as not to fall behind with software.
