New firmware this week
Posted by: blythe on 03 April 2018
Just received an email from Naim:
We are pleased to announce that the Mu-so & Mu-so Qb Multiroom compatibility firmware update v.1.6 will be available to download this week.
This new update will enable you to now seamlessly play music between your Mu-so all-in-one system and other Naim streaming products, as well as fix some known bugs.
The Naim app will notify you when the update for your product becomes available.
Thanks, I still have the previous drivers. Is it safe to assume they will still be ok?

YES ........ or at least they are for the PC version
Just updated my Atom, noticed on the app that in audio settings the max volume and balance sliders have disappeared leaving just headphone vol, anyone else notice this?
Just updated my qB via the app and my NDX via usb/laptop. Very straightforward in both cases. The PC app guides you through the process once you start it. No problems thus far.
Did my 272 the other day from the Beta thread. Defo improvement in SQ from original version (never previously updated) with more weight to sound and improvement in the better quality recordings all round. I think the harsher pieces through TIDAL sound worse mind!
I needed USB driver which can be found from naim's pdf and link below:
https://www.naimaudio.com/site...n%204%203%20PC_0.pdf
(Though for some reason my laptop wouldn't take it, however my wife's did...)
What a load of faff. Naim always seem to be on catch-up with their software and systems. So to update my NDS I need to buy a USB cable, unplug the NDS, insert transit screws, take it to my PC in another room, config the PC so it doesn't go to sleep, follow instructions, unplug, return to the other room, undo transit screws and reattach cables. For what? Multiroom which I don't use? Think I'll leave it as it is. The Linn KDS is beginning to sound more and more attractive.
Right. Inevitable post from someone having trouble running the update. Any advice gratefully received.
I updated previous models using my old windows laptop. No problems, at least that I can remember.
Now I'm trying to update my 272 with my Mac, and can't seem to get the job done.
I've installed the MAC USB driver from https://www.silabs.com/product...-bridge-vcp-drivers, including having run the .pkg file. If I look through 'about this mac', go to hardware > USB, I can see an entry on the list saying CP2102 USB to UART Bridge Controller, which I'm reading as indicating that the driver is properly installed.
I've tried two different USB to mini-USB cables.
And yet when running the updater app, with the mac connected to the 272, the only port that shows up in the drop down list is Bluetooth-incoming-port.
Um, any tips?

Agreed.
Just got the update for my Atom no issues. Although I dont think I have seen a list of bug fixes that long in one release on any hardware platform its quite a biggy. Hopefully it fixes the stability issues a lot of us have been having,

Can you check the audio settings in the app and see if everything is there? See above
Phew, managed to update my 272 via an old Samsung laptop which had the relevant drivers for the usb cable and has a Ethernet port unlike my current laptop.
Sounds pretty good to me.
the app updated on my iPhone but not yet available on the iPad but both seem to be working fine. Thanks for the help from forum.

All good here. I could not see input settings in app after the update though. Restarted app and all was there.
Ok having listened to a few things I am finding the Atom sounds way too bright, scatchy and a bit thin since this update. Admittedly I have been away a few days but it never sounded like this last time I used it. Not sure I like it at all right now. Maybe I'm imagining it can't see how they could change the sound. This is listening from a number of sources to.

Just replying to myself in case it benefits any future searchers. Turns out that my Mac had helpfully disabled a component of the USB bridge software. I could see that it had done so by checking About This Mac > System Report and scrolling down to Disabled Software. Apparently this may be a feature of newer versions of MacOS.
When it does things like that, MacOS is supposed to add a mention of it to the general tab of Security & Privacy in System Preferences, with the option to allow the software in question to work as intended.
In my case, nothing showed up in Security & Privacy the first 5 or so times I restarted, tried installing the USB software again, and so on. But eventually, for some reason known best to the spells and ghosts which inhabit and power my computer, I checked back and voila, the name of the disabled software and a button to click saying 'allow' had appeared.
Once I'd clicked that, the appropriate port showed up in the Naim app, and things went smoothly.

True, but you don't exactly have to do it very often.....thankfully.

Really quite simple. No transit screws, no taking into another room. Just a nice long spare Ethernet cable and USB connector which I luckily found in a drawer. Whole process for three machines too an hour and I’m a computer dunce

Same on my Nova

Will you keep us posted please in case it's just a warming up issue. I don't want to have to go through the faff of updating my NDS only to find it sounds worse.

I think you may need to update the Naim app.
IOS App 5.9.1, Nova System version 2.6.9508
Audio settings: Max volume, Balance and Headphone max volume

Thanks, you’re right, it wasn’t available in the App Store after I updated but it’s there now!

If anything, my 272 now sounds marginally less bright, scratchy or thin, in a good way. So additional thinscratchybrightness doesn't seem to be a universal feature of the new f/w.

Also had an instant drop in SQ after updating my Nova and Muso QB. I noticed in the app, in settings>audio settings that the volume control and balance had disappeared. Then I saw the update for the app for my iPad and updated the app. Now the sound is back to how it was pre update but with a much bigger soundstage. I'm about 3 hours since updating and have been streaming Tidal and listening to the TV through the Nova. All seems good.
Dave***T, very helpful post for which many thanks. When I can pluck up courage I’ll be updating my NDX using a Mac. I don’t even know what a usb driver is, so found your post very enlightening.

I updated the app first so did not have this. But still notice a drop in SQ. It might be just me or it all needs warming up a bit as its not been used for a few days as been away but its sounds a bit rough to me. Just done a factory reset so will see if this helps.
Something sounds different with my Atom but I fancy I am hearing more finer high frequency detail. One might construe this as brighter or thinner initially but once the ears adjust, it’s not a negative effect. There is no diminishment in the midrange or lower registers. Could just be a placebo effect if no changes were made in the DAC or DSP, who knows? Still sounds fabulous.
