New firmware this week
Posted by: blythe on 03 April 2018
Just received an email from Naim:
We are pleased to announce that the Mu-so & Mu-so Qb Multiroom compatibility firmware update v.1.6 will be available to download this week.
This new update will enable you to now seamlessly play music between your Mu-so all-in-one system and other Naim streaming products, as well as fix some known bugs.
The Naim app will notify you when the update for your product becomes available.
I'm having trouble updating my NDX using Windows 10. I've installed the Silabs driver software, which has added COM3 to the list, and plugging the NDX in and out causes the correct Windows 'bong' sounds. However, when I run the Updater, select COM3 as the connection and click on 'Next' I am told that "the serial port cannot be opened".
I'd be grateful for any suggestions.
I'm having the exact same problem as Michael Leuty. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Looks like Naim have forgotten to include it - If you have a new laptop or its your first time to do this you need to install the USB or RS232 driver. YOU CAN FIND THE LINKS IN THE OLD FIRMWARE v4.4 .pdf Find it in Customer Support just below the v4.6 firmware section.
Thanks Mike, back in from a movie and loading the NDX now.

Have you powered the NDX off and on again? That got me the Next option.
Yes, I've tried turning the NDX off and on again. I've also tried changing the COM port provided by the Silicon Labs CP210x driver to COM2 and then COM4, but that didn't help either. :-(

Yes. I've tried it but still no luck.

Have you just downloaded the Silabs USB driver but have not installed it ????? Its been a long while since I went through the getting started stage, I've since done it so may times trouble free the memory is a bit hazy & I've forgotten the detail, it just that I do remember downloading the driver is not installing it.
I connect the USB & ethernet & get to the COM3 point, power off NDX, wait 10-15 secs, power on NDX, touch next & it then asks you to select the software (touch the software rev number) then next & it should get started & go thru the process.
If that doesn't work, ........ err .......... I will have a thinks agin in the morning
Aha! I have solved the problem. :-)
On this page:
https://www.silabs.com/product...t-bridge-vcp-drivers
I downloaded the first option: Download for Windows Universal (v10.1.1). This didn't work.
After uninstalling this driver and installing the second option: Download for Windows 7/8/8.1/10 (v6.7.5) everything worked property.
By the way, I couldn't uninstall the 10.1.1 driver using Settings - Apps. I had to start Device Manager, scroll down to the COM entries, select the Silicon Labs entry and delete the driver there.

Great work! I've just tried that and it works for me too. Thanks!
Maybe I've missed something ...... but there doesn't seem to be an over the air update to 1.6 for my Mu-So (currently still 1.5) and the Naim App (latest 5.9.1), simply says "Mu-So is up to date" (using the App to "Check for updates")
I've tried removing and reinstalling the iOS App and resetting etc, plus rebooting the Mu-So and it still thinks that there is no update.
Surely it isn't because it hasn't reached New Zealand yet!

Thanks for the help. I could not get the updater to recognize the USB cable from the 272 to my Macbook Pro. Had to reinstall the USB driver and now listening to music again.
So time to leave NAIM I think. I have just wasted two hours trying to update my Unitilite. After years of total rubbish in NAIM software, I can' get my system to recognise the com port. This is despite having upgraded several times over the last few years and using the same computer, with the same drivers, as I used when I updated to Version 3.XX and Version 4.4. My Muso QB supposedly updated this morning and promptly lost connection to my Nas drive...having been (relatively) good in this respect lately and my Muso tells me that it is up to dat...though running 5.5, when my QB had just updated to 5.6.....
NAIM software is rubbish. How does a company produce such great hardware and such rubbish software!!!??? Upgrading firmware should be simple. While they say it can't be done any other way with the hardware, no other piece of computer hardware that I have used in the last ten years, working on many networks , requires such time and inspires such frustration as the NAIM updates.
Time for Linn......
sorry to hear of the problems, my NDX took about 10 mins to download firmware and re start, did this first thing this morning while the house was still
worked first time, little bit of straching as it had been a while - certainly the App on the IPAD has updated as firmware on NDX to latest verison =
also fixed some of the issues on Asset with the dreaded "T" -
will report back on any issues but so far so good

Not seeing it in the UK either but the email does say 'available this week'.
I have been waiting for the Multiroom to be fixed for so long...ever since purchasing an Atom for my smaller lounge (where it sits retro-fitted to an old Phillips Radiogram) I dreamed of being able to do what was initially touted as a feature of the new range, and my almost sole reason for purchase - being able to multiroom an analogue source.
Now my Rega TT can be listed to in my main room ;-)
Happiness filled - Thanks Naim for delivering this long awaited functionality.

It is there now for sure, but to get my Qb to recognise it I had to click on the update symbol at the top of the home screen, rather than "check for updates" in the settings menu of the Qb home page of the app.

Hi David
Not sure what you mean ? My Mu-So thinks it’s up to date (when it isn’t) and I can’t locate the update symbol you refer to ????
Thought is was because I’m in New Zealand ????
Having read the posts about usb drivers I’ll be taking my NDX to my dealer, he can sort it out.
Updated 2 QBs easily using the Naim app., but the Muso still thinks it’s up to date despite being on an earlier version to the QBs. Not sure what is going on...

I am in UK and my Atom and Qb have been seeing the available download since Tuesday evening. Now Wednesday morning and my Mu-so still not showing the update available - down arrow in top left corner on the iPad version of the Naim app. Have tried powering off and on. Naim IOS App updated. So it is not just New Zealand.
Roger
I haven't done the Qb update yet, but that allows me to see that my iPhone can't see the Qb is due an update whereas my iPad can. In both cases the Naim app is the release version, updated from the beta candidate release, this morning and running on the same IOS version.
So not showing the update is an app thing not a muso Qb thing. I suggest that if you delete the Naim app (which also deletes all of the associated data) and download the app from the App Store again, maybe the new copy of the app will pick it up.

Thanks for the suggestion. My iPhone, new iPad, and old iPad (with old iOS) all show the Mu-so as having no update available. Made sure I stopped the Naim app running on each device then deleted and re-installed on the old iPad (as it is the one we normally use for this). Download symbol still fails to appear for the Mu-so. It is running the same streamer version, 1.5, as the Qb but has earlier BSL version etc. Will check with Naim
Roger
David, my experience is the same as Roger. iPhone is running the updated app, whilst iPad is running the old version, both reporting that the mu-so is up to date with firmware version 1.5
Hi All
Spoken to Naim tech support. The news is that the Mu-so updates are not due to be released until today or tomorrow - the updates are being staggered. So more patience needed. Naim ask for us to apply the updates as we see them - I was waiting so all available in case of interoperability problems but was assured there should be none.
Roger
No one has mentioned this so far - the clock now stays on screen on my Nova until turned off again from the remote. I assume it’s not just my Nova
