Tidal: no HiRes streaming with Naim?

Posted by: Emme on 05 April 2018

Before the last firmware update the Naim App showed 24 bit / 48khz for Tidal Master Albums.

Now the info show always 16/44.1 so I asked to Naim what's wrong. The answer is:

"before the update it was reporting incorrect data. It has now been fixed so what you are seeing is the correct properties for the track. HD streaming through TIDAL masters is not an available function and never has been"

so, no Tidal HiRes streaming with Naim? incredible...

Yes, the Naim App access to Tidal only provides for the 16/44.1 version of an Album, even when there is a Master version available. This would play at the unfolded version of the MQA format at 24/48.

If you playback via Roon you can select the MQA version and the playback is correct for an unfolded version with no MQA conversion.

If you playback via the Tidal app on Windows (sorry, can’t speak to the Mac version) there is the 1st unfold of the Master’s MQA format, so upto 24/96 playback.

If Naim had MQA support in their products, then the API access for the Naim App into Tidal would be different, I am told.
