What speaker cable are you using?

Wondering what you are using for speaker cable?

Some excellent threads about SQ and power supply upgrades etc but what's the concensus on which speaker cable is best for Naim products.

Personally I'm running Townsend Isolda cable between Uniti 2 and PMC 25.23 speakers.

Naughty boy. You need to ask for a pardon.

You're making an assumption there!

Maybe my post was too cryptic.

20+ years with NACA5 and very happy.

Tried SL but with 11m runs was too expensive and never missed it after an extended home loan.

NACA5 for me too. Good stuff, does everything I want from a speaker cable.

NACA5 for ages, but have changed to Mogami with the Shahinians. They time nearly as well but are much better on acoustic timbre.

TQ Black II for me

Although in a previous system I usaed 5m biwire lengths of NACA5 (it was a while ago and i didn't know any better.....) and i was incredibly happy with the result, my new system required some flexibility in the location of speakers (and in the cables to reach the locations) that I worried NACA5 simply couldn't be forced to accommodate

in the future i'd like to compare the two but we'll see if and when this turns out to be possible

NACA5 for me too. I tried Chord Signature (Mk1) for over a month as many of my other interconnects are Chord but although it had better detail and separation it lacked, to me, the naturalness of the NACA5. It may be that I need an all copper cable in my set-up to balance out the Seas tweeters in my Kudos speakers which are sometimes referred to as 'hot'. I also found that longer lengths of NACA5 smooth out the sound a little, again towards a more 'organic/natural' sound, so it is worth trialling more than the 3.5m minimum lengths recommended.

5-10m optimal. 3.5m simply a minimum.

for me Klotz LY240 works just fine and its not unwieldy like the Naca5

Huge, that's sailing mighty close to the reef...

I thought that after my apologizing reply the thing was obviously to be abandoned quickly. Why do people behave like children? You tell them spit disgusts you, and all they can think of is jokes about spitting.

Anyway, it appears that the person(s) involved have nothing to do with power supplies. I understand less and less people's behaviour, but I suppose it's a a common thing with age.

Agreed Max. Anyway A5 Naim cable has traditionally been married with Naim gear for eons and to me is a very satisfying product. I briefly tried TQB but timing was "off" in my 272/250dr/ s400 system, so went back to A5 and never been happier. SL is of course better, but price has put me off, till impending Lotto win.

I had to change from too-short NACA4 so, on recommendation of Chord as opposed to NAIM cable (unavailable locally out here in my remote location) I settled for Chord Epic, keeping the upgrade within my budget.

During a series of upgrades, it enabled my pursuit of retaining involving musicality, whilst enhancing "hifi" presentation.  The best of both worlds...

As an aside,  I'm hugely impressed that there's a product out there called "Shiit Yggdrasil".

Not really answering the OP because my system only has one Naim product at the moment - one pair of SL speaker cables. I have active PMC Twenty.26, the other 2 lengths of cable are currently Linn K400, but will become SL when funds eventually allow.

Active Tweny-26s - that is an interesting but seemingly not very common implementation.

Out of interest, how close are your power amps to the speakers? Other than amps requiring the cable’s inductance to stabilise them, as with at least the older Naim products, I have always assumed that the shorter the cable the better, because the ideal would be no cable, directly connecting the amp to the speaker, so the shorter the cable the less negative effect it may have (and the less costly - triply so with tri-amping!), and the logical corollary of that is that very short cables, as wihen the amps are right next to the speaker, any effect will be so small as to be completely inaudible.

K400 and the triwire K600 (if they still make it) are excellent. Electrically near identical to K20 which itself is a A4 clone (or the other way around). You can't really go wrong with the Linn K cables if in doubt just like you can't go wrong with A5.

Oddly enough I used to use Naim A4 in a Linn system, then K400. I had to go all Naim electronics before I decided to use neither Naim or Linn. Odd that.

You had it the right way around.

Incidentally the Linn (K20?) cable was an illegal copy by BICC of our NACA4, BICC thought that it was their design and therefore started supplying both grey and black copies to other manufacturers including Linn - due to a change of staff/factory I believe.

When this was pointed out to BICC, they settled out of court. We then spent the money on designing a new and better cable with another supplier under a secrecy agreement, and this is the NACA5.

I've been happily using NACA5 for years however I recently came across a few varieties of Inakustik cable (German) in Akihabara and found myself curious. Construction is similar to Naim but I don't know the specifications. Has anyone tried it?

I’ve had and tried the Inakustik Atmos but it didn’t impress me much. Nothing more than NacA5 and less lively. Leaning to darkish grey, so to speak.

about six months ago, i found a set of secondhand Vertere Pulse-Xmini (yes, Vertere spell it that way, for some reason) cables and decided to give them a go, mostly due to boredom: i hadn't had anything other than A5 in about 20 years.

subjective analysis: i -think- i heard a slight increase in clarity versus the A5. objective reality: they are WAY easier to work with, so they stayed!

Mogami here too, but then again, Shahinians here too. Mogami was suggested to me by John Burns of Pear Audio, the importers of Shahinian. He was right that it works much better than NACA5 in my system. It’s cheap too, but I have to say that I have no idea how it might work with other speaker brands.

Naca5 at present (Core, NAC-N272, NAP250 DR & 20 24 speakers). When funds permit I'll ether try other cables and or a separate power supply for the 272. Rich

When I bought my 1st NAIM gear last May I walked out the door with some used Chord Clearway speaker cable.  Two months later I picked up two 14ft (4.27M) runs of NAC A5 cable.  Quite happy with the NAC A5 and do not anticipate a need to change.

I've just had a look at Super Lumina cable prices. A 3m pair is not at an unreasonable price.  I paid around $5k for my Crystal Cables, so may consider SL speaker cables next.

Posted on: 24 April 2018 by piggy

Been happy using NACA5 for the past 17 years but as I'm replacing my speakers I thought I demo Super Lumina with existing and new speakers and bought them after a brief demo. Tried them against Chord Signature as a comparison, hind sight I guess I should have tried Sarum T but I didn't like what they added so bought the Super Lumina. SL felt a natural progression from NACA5. Andy

LFD Hybrid Speaker Cable Pair, the sound/music is pretty good with analogue sources. The cables are a bit expensive, but I think they are wroth it.
