Uniti Nova HDMI
Posted by: hifinewbie on 11 April 2018
Hello Folks
Does anyone know the Nova HDMI component specifications and which HDMI cable version should be used for connective Nova to TV (samsung ua55hu7000 with HDMI 2.0 component).
Iam trying to connect Nova to TV with 1.4 HDMI version cables but it says no signal.

I can only suggest you tell that to Naim when I said it they weren’t really interested and implied I was a fool for asking.
Hi David,
At no point was my intention to suggest or imply that you were a fool for asking ...

Hi Phil thanks for responding to this query, not sure who is the decision maker on this in Naim, but is there a way we can ask for this to be implemented as a option which user can choose?
otherwise the experience is broken while using it as HDMI connected receiver.
there is not much advantage of not keeping this setting as for all other inputs nova will switch to that input after selecting a song anyway.
Hifinewbie,
from what I can ascertain, this would require the HDMI board to be permanently powered up, and that adversely impacts performance. Naim put sound performance at the top of priorities and go to great lengths to avoid anything that adversely impacts on performance, hence the units are designed to power down the HDMI board when not in use. Hence, from what I can ascertain, if the HDMI board is powered down it cannot automatically bring the unit out of standby and the only way to make this a feature would be to compromise overall sound performance.
Hifinewbie,
Some of us have been Naim owners for 40 years or so and have simply learned to live with the peculiarities that embody Naim equipment.
The most obvious is the lack of tone controls - claimed to improve the overall sound.
the need, in the early days, to own a specific turntable before being allowed to purchase a Naim amp -although Rega Planars did seem to expand the options a little !
I wanted to add an equaliser and some sort of special decoder (can't recall what it was now) and Julian point-blank refused. I had to resort to stealth and get a Tape-in-Tape-out option fitted to my Nac12 on the pretext that my Sony 377 Tape Deck could then be fully used.
The list isn't endless, but it is quite long.............see the thread on parametric equalisers and you'll see that things haven't really changed.
The good thing about all this dogged naim dictatorship is..............it usually works better, the naim way.

Thanks Dane, The logic makes sense but actually it is providing broken experience unfortunately, and this can only be realised by actually using it as a HDMI receiver and understand broken service it is providing.
With this setup I doubt anybody can really use this function to much use? It should just work or don’t provide the function at all like what apple does.
Unfortunately it appears all of us made a wrong choice to get a device which we thought will provide complete HDMI function coupled with great sound. Personally I relied on Naim brand to fix any issues on its way as these are long term purchases which will last for years.
I wish there was way to avoid the above compromise and still provide claimed functionality.

Thanks for sharing don, I was looking for the equaliser as well but naim suggests I think to buy a amp and speaker combo such that it works well in all conditions unfortunately in the HDMI situation naim way is not better.
