BLISS - I feel conned

Posted by: sjw on 12 April 2018

When I paid £50 or so quid I thought I was buying unlimited fixes... but apparently its only for a year!

"Once the year is up you'll still be able to use your fixes, but you won't be able to use them in a newer version.

At that point you'll be offered a further year's updates at a discounted rate, currently £9 (or your local currency equivalent)."

I like BLISS but I purchased way back in the day so have unlimited for life, but to be honest I have not found much use for it in recent years, when I converted my naim library WAVs I used a MP3tag and a specific code string for it to use which converted the entire library in minutes, I tended to find bliss took all day.

I bought BLISS last year, with my Vortexbox Microserver, and, like you, with unlimited fixes. It did sort out some artwork and tagging issues, in my music library, but to be honest I'm not sure it was worth the money. There are probably alternatives.

I agree, if you want to modify the tags is a very slow process.

I don't think I'll be buying the annual updates.

To be fair its found album art in all but 22 out of 1100 albums but I dont remember seeing anything about annual extras. Its just to be unlimited fixes means just that and now thats not the case.

I don't like extras on bills. A Chinese restaurant in Henley once tried to add a service charge and a cover charge...on a self serve buffet! I asked when i was going to be paid the service charge for serving myself

Until your post I didn't know there was an additional charge for annual software updates.

Buyer beware.

The guy who makes it is very responsive if there is an issue etc, its just thats its kind of a one need deal really.

I trialled Bliss, and thought it good, but it just didn’t seem like something I wanted to use constantly.  In the end, I found MusicBrainz Picard; it is awful to use, but did an impressive job on my library once I worked out how to use it.  It will chug through an entire drive, lookup track information and artwork, and reorganise into artist/album folders.

Hopefully, that might help others looking to clean up their library.

In addition to the music library stored on my Vortexbox MicroServer I also keep a copy on my Windows 10 PC where I use MusicBee for playing music.

It's much easier to amend/update tags and artwork in MusicBee and then copy to the Vortexbox MicroServer.
