NDX won't power up without XPS

Posted by: deepinsight on 14 April 2018

I'm getting my NDX ready for the recent software upgrade and have removed it to plug in a network cable and the RS232 cable.

It was powered by an XPS via a bundy cable when racked but I thought I'd power it via the 13A input. However it doesn't power up. I've changed leads, plus, fuses but still no power.

Further when I re-racked it and attached the bundy cable the NDX display showed, "TWO PSUs.  turn off and wait 10 minutes".

The 13A cable had been removed and the power rocker switch was set to off.

Can anyone explain this behavior and  let me know how to switch between XPS and 13A power on an NDX correctly ( I have RTFM !! )?

Hi [@mention:29302472711526822]

Did you put the Burndy link plug back in?

just to confirm: your NDX power switch is "off" now, right?

So just to explain in one post, if you use the NDX without the XPS and Burndy, you have to put a link plug in place of the Burndy on the back of the NDX. It will have had the link plug when you bought the NDX. If you can't find it then you will have to move the XPS too.

Assuming you have found the link plug. You can now put a mains lead into the power socket on the NDX and turn on the power switch on the back.

When you come to put it back into the rack, you must disconnect the mains power lead from the NDX and leave the mains switch on the back at off (I don't think it matters whether the switch is on or off but you mustn't have the mains lead in the back of the NDX.)

I think the reason you got the two power supplies message was because the NDX internal power supply was still holding voltage from being connected to the mains and because you didn't have the link plug in place, it didn't discharge as quickly as it normally would. But by waiting ten minutes, that is long enough for it to lose charge on its own (in fact probably one minute would be plenty).

So basically all behaviour of the unit was as expected!

OK, I dug out the 'link plug' for the burndy socket - the plug is about 2" long - and plugged that into the burndy socket, 13A lead into the 'kettle' socket switched on and Bingo!

It took a while to get the upgrade done is the ARM codeset didn't allow IP discovery, however NDX is now running 4.6 and is back in rack powered by the XPS and running...

...although it can't see any of the UPNP players....yet.....

Thanks for your advice David, Finkfan and DRPO.
