Latest app and firmware updates success

Posted by: Rich 1 on 14 April 2018

Updated both app and firmware, 272 connected to core. I have to say that the app update has, for me been a huge success, this is what the app should have been originally. Naim have listened to complaints/suggestions that I and many others have made via the feedback built into the app and acted on them, well done. I haven't had a crash or any other problems since I updated. The firmware update was easy to carry out, still evaluating if it's made a difference to the music though. Now all Naim have to do is build up customer relations again as they have made a lot of new customer's reluctant to ever purchase a Naim product again.

Just think yourself lucky on the app.

I have it on two devices...
Phone...   Works about 80% of the time   (but even then it doesn't quite work correctly)
Tablet...   Works about 20% of the time   (but it works quite well, when it does deign to work)

Which looks OK if you add the two together, but it doesn't work out that way as they don't behave cooperatively, and it's not infrequent that neither will work.

Hi Huge, I have it on an iPad and 2 Android phones since the day it was issued and, touch wood it's behaving it's self on all three. Wife and daughter also say it's working better than ever. I have to fight them sometimes to play the music I want!

I'm new to this app since I bought a Star and Qb.  I'm loading lots of CDs on the Star and I can't get the list to update, I can only find about 5 albums.  I can do a search and start music that way but how do I get to see them all.  I also have numerous ones without images.

You should see them all in album view. So go to the Star bit of app, then choose upnp of course, then album view. If the artwork is missing, you should be able to add it yourself via the app. Have you found how to edit metadata in the app yet?

Also are you using the IOS app or the Android app? If it's IOS I can talk you through it but if it's Android then one of the other regulars can help I'm sure.

If you have multiple Naim devices controlled by the app. How do you stop the last device you used from being turned on automatically, when you re-open the app at a later time. Does anyone know the answer to this ? Thanks for any help.

You can't so far as I know.  (It's a feature not a bug.) But does it matter?

I, too, find this "feature" mildly annoying. The reason it matters, to some small extent, is that (for example) when I want to listen to a Mu-so (we have two) but the last thing I listened to was on our Nova I effectively start the Nova then have to put it into standby before selecting and listening to the Mu-so. (We don't have auto standby set for the Nova because in the past if we did it tended to cut the sound periodically from the speakers when the TV is using the HDMI connection to the Nova.)

Doesn't it make slightly more sense that if the app controls more than one device you should be able to select the relevant device when starting the app? (Sorry, not wishing to be tendentious...just my view!)

I have not seen a setting to adjust this, and believe it is a deliberate design choice. Sometimes if you return to the main Rooms screen before you exit the app, it starts in that screen and only shows the discovered devices. I don’t think this is 100% reliable, however

My personal workaround when the app opens showing a sleeping device is to hit the Room Name (at the top of the app) to return to the main Rooms page; this then lists all rooms (devices) and their status; if you do it right away, the sleeping box doesn’t always wake up. If you remember to leave your device playing from a server (NAS or Tidal) when you put it into standby, it won’t auto play (as it does for iRadio) if it does wake up.

Not what you’re really after, I’m afraid, but at least you have one other user’s experience to compare! Best wishes.

It might be worth trying auto-standby again, as this was apparently addressed in the last firmware update. Not helpful on your main point, but could be a bit useful? If it fails, definitely worth raising with Support, as its supposed to be fixed

If you have only one Naim product, then the operation of the app is intuitive. However with more than one product, it really does make sense to have turn one item off, before selecting another one to turn on. It was just a query, to see if I had missed something. I would have thought, that when having multiple items, it would have been possible by Naim to include in the firmware for each device  a setting to disable the auto power on, when using multiple Naim devices.

I thought turning off always reconnect in the settings should stop it from powering on when app is started.  If it's on a it will always connected to the last device used and power it on. Does this not work for multiroom devices, only have one myself and it works for that.

Neither my Nova nor either Mu-so show an "always reconnect" setting in the app. The nearest I can find to that is under "Other settings > Stay connected" but that simply says:

> Switch on to prevent this mobile device from sleeping, this can reduce battery life.

I'm not sure if I'm missing something obvious!

I believe it relates to the battery life of the device on which the app is loaded e.g. your iPad or android tablet/device.

This option is indeed "Stay connected" rather than "Always reconnect".

The purpose of it is to allow you to keep the app connected to the streamer even when your phone is asleep. It's really a last resort way of solving issues of rediscovery of your streamer during a music session. But the disadvantage of it is that it raises the battery consumption of your phone. Obviously it doesn't help answer the question about how to stop the app waking the last connected streamer.

You seem to be correct with your methodolgy, to stop a Naim device from powering up automatically. This maybe not an ideal solution and really could only be resolved by Naim themselves. However, nobody said life was perfect, so I can live with it. Many thanks again, Alan33.

I have my iPad on 'stay connected' & its never been a problem,  at mo the batt is showing 76% with 3hrs 43min runtime & 74hrs standby.   I suspect a phone with a smaller battery will be more affected,  but I have no meaningful comparison as I rarely use the Naim app on my phone.  I charge the iPad battery every 7 or 8 days,  the phone is 2 or 3 days.   Both have smart/sleep covers & are always on.

Hello -

Recently updated to the latest app for iOS (5.9.1). Playlists gone. Artwork gone. Same result on both iPad and iPhone. Also had to reboot the Uniti Core before the app could "see" it again.

Anyone else had these issues?

(I did do a quick search).

Thanks.

Posted on: 02 June 2018 by David Hendon

You shouldn't have these problems with the Core although artwork on Unitiserve is sometimes an issue currently.

When you say you rebooted the Core, did you do it from scratch, i.e. Pull out the power plug, wait a few seconds and then plug in the power again. Let it start up.

Then I suggest you stop the app (by double click home button & swiping upwards). Then restart the app.

You should be able to see the Core in the app ok, and the artwork.

If this doesn't work then I suggest you turn off your Core again, power out, restart your router then when it's fully restarted, start your Core, stop and restart the app as before. Now it definitely should be ok.

hi all

just read this thread, the fact that we now have products that can be woken up from the app - would indicate that a optional setting would make some sense, i have raised to development for review

Thanks David.

Your solution worked. Restarted the modem, the Core and the app (in that sequence) and all is good. I won’t ask why. ????
