Two questions

Searching using the Naim App searches both my NAS drive and Tidal. Is there a way of just searching my NAS drive?
When you have more than one album by the same artist, is it possible to choose which album's artwork appears for the artist. For example if R.E.M. showed the cover for Monster is there a way of changing it to show Out Of Time instead? How does the App (or perhaps it's the server) decide in any case? It's a small thing, but would be nice not to have an obscure album cover or one that was less well regarded but is included in your library for completeness or has one or two decent tracks amidst mediocrity.
I don’t know if you can set an alternate icon for the artist - I’ve tried but not succeeded (I’m using Asset). Try putting a picture in the file system at the same level as the albums called folder.jpg to see if it changes (eg. Heroes, Low, Pinups, folder.jpg all as entries of “David Bowie”)
The artist picture is the picture from the first album (or track) ripped by that artist, though some of mine have switched to the first alphabetically by that artist (this change seems to happen if I change the metadata on the first ripped album)
How Asset does this (e.g. when browsing by artist) must be documented somewhere, or has been asked before on the Asset forum.
It'd be interesting to see if putting folder.jpg in the artist folder is picked up.

It wasn’t when I tried it, but I’m sure I read it should have been. I haven’t tried again as I’ve concentrated on getting all my metadata right first - perhaps when I’ve finally finished ripping I’ll give it another go.
Presumably temporarily disabling the tidal input via the app’s settings will enable you to search UPnP only.
Ref artwork, On my Ipad/iPhone I just have a boring blank folder icon, not even any picture at all . I'm using LMS as my uPNP - simply as it was already there before I upgraded from Squeezebox to NDX.
However, I was demoing some speakers recently and dealer's Ipad Naim app had a collage (4 albums, a small square pic of each) in the folder icon for each artist - which looked quite cool.
Didn't occur to me to ask how the dealer had set this up, and as I ended up buying different speakers from another dealer, I don't want to go back and ask!

It’s all down to the server: from the same files I can view this (via Plex)...
Or this (via Minimserver)...

Are you sure this wasn’t in the Tidal app? That’s the only place I’ve seen artwork displayed like that.
Try app settings - input settings - Tidal - unitick Include Tidal Favourites on home screen

Ahh could very well have been. My mistake. Although thanks for pointing our Plex's picture functionality - will give that a try. Much nicer having visuals.

Same as I get when using my Core.
For the first question press the server icon and then local drives and you should see your NAS.
In Asset you can place an artist image in the AssetUserUpstreamImages folder and Asset will use this rather than picking an upstream image randomly from your albums for that artist.
On my QNAP the path is.
/share/CACHEDEV2_DATA/.qpkg/Asset/bin/.dBpoweramp/uMediaLibrary-v4/AssetUserUpstreamImages

For local vs Tidal search question:
Rather than using magnifying glass to search, go to your UPnP servers, drill down to your favourite view, such as albums or artists, and pull down on the screen to reveal a “hidden” search text entry field above the top of the list. This searches local files only.

Very interesting TD.
I've found that folder in my QNAP but it is empty. How did you populate this e.g. by having a folder named "Artist" and then subfolders for individual artist names?
Also is it possible to specify other top level folders e.g. for different genres etc?

Not only is it a local search, but it only searches the actual list you have already navigated to, which makes it oretty useless in my books.
If I remember correctly, this is an old platform issue, as the new streamers will do a global search of both Tidal and local music from the magnifying glass.

Hi ChrisSU -
i don’t know about “pretty useless”... if you stay at any top level (eg all albums, all tracks,or all artists) then your local only search is “complete”... limited maybe, since you can’t search for a specific track from all albums, but you can find a specific album or all albums by a specific artist from the albums top level. Depends what you want, I guess. I agree that the “pull down” search might better be viewed as a filter for what’s displayed in your drill down view ... it’s even labelled that way when you use it eg UPnP album or in Tidal ‘what’s new” view. Good point!
As to new platform search magnifying glass doing both local and Tidal search, as opposed it older mag glass only searching Tidal: you are of course totally correct... but the OP asked how to search local only, hencemy reply.
Sorry for confusion, I wasn’t advocating one over the other, just pointing out a (not so obvious ?) answer to a specific question.

I’ve only seen directions for Windows (different directory path), but the process I’ve seen says to create png files with names to match the artist in that directory:-
ABBA.png
David Bowie.png
and so on I think case is important - I haven’t tried this yet, I may have a go later. I’ll report back if I do

The files just reside in the directory, no need to create separate directories.
All my files are PNG format and the name needs to exactly match the Album Artist name. e.g. Anita Baker.png, ABBA.png.
Not sure if you can do the same for Genres
Thank you
I've put a few test jpg files into the AssetUserUpstreamImages folder using the Album Artist.jpg filenames. These are not showing through yet but I guess I'm going to have to do a rescan on Asset and clear the app's UPnP and/or Image caches before I see a change.
Many thanks for your tip.
