How do I set up UPnP on the HDX?

Posted by: Consciousmess on 20 April 2018

Hi all, I’ve combed through the HDX manual and searched a bit online, but cannot understand how to use this feature. I would be grateful if you could assist me with two questions:

1) Does this feature mean my newly ripped CBT stress relief CD can be played from the HDX to my iPhone (wirelessly connected to the same router)

2) If true, how do I set up this function?

I’d be most appreciative of your guidance, as this is the only way I can listen to the CD to try and conquer insomnia.

The HDX works by default as a UPnP server ... any device on your network which is set-up as a UPnP player can access and play the music stored on the HDX. No further action needed.

To answer your question wheater it is possible to access the music from your iPhone, I must admit that I have no experience with this. You probably need to install an app which makes this possible...

hope this helps ...

Its been a while since I had an NS02 which is essentially an HDX, I was of the impression the UPNP is on by default, if not google the naim hdx manual the details are on page 16.

From the phone side thats dead easy just download something like sesam music which streams music to your phone from UPNP. I think its a couple of squid,

in the compatibility section of the UPNP settings on the HDX, set it as an MP3 stream, iphones wont play with flac or WAV very well.

That should be it.

I once tried a UPnP app on my iPhone, I forget what it was called, but it found my Unitiserve (same server as HDX) with no problem. There is also a UPnP app on my Sony portable player, which works with it too. No setup/configuration required, UPnP lived up to it’s name!

As an addendum - why doesn’t Naim advertise this feature more?  It’s brilliant!!

I’m amazed that I can access my substantial music collection as long as I’ve got WiFi signal - that’s cool as i have signal boosters in the large shed I’m converting into an office/man cave.  Think the Mu-so will sit nicely on the beer fridge...

You could try the suggestions from this thread: I have no experience with any of these:

I think you need Fraim balls and glass on top of the fridge.

I was wondering if VLC would work for this, and if it does, it will probably play FLACs as well.
