552 Din to Din

Posted by: Richieroo on 24 April 2018

Hi just a thought - my 552 has a din to din cable that connects to PS .... the signal cables then leave the PS to power the power amp.......... has anyone tried upgrading this cable - is there a super lumina that can be used to connect????

This cable only carries power for the control circuits inside the 552 from the PS. Signal is going via the Burndy. IIRC  I take it you have the Din-Din cable running close to the Burndy ?

As James says above, the SNAIC5 only carries power for the control and logic circuits in this instance.

Also, please note forum rules with regard to discussion of unauthorised modifications, which includes non-Naim "SNAICs", Burndy cables etc.. , Thanks.

Apologies Richard - I forgot the power carrying rule !

Hi can you clarify were the Din to Din should run ......... should it be kept well clear of the burndy cable???

In parallel with the Burndy.

Form a loose loop with the Snaic around the Burndy - try 2-3 "coils", and it shouldn't be tight

It's not a constrictor SNAIC!

Run the SNAIC parallel alongside the Burndy, but, if possible, not touching.  If this isn't easy to achieve then you can loop it over the Burndy cable once, twice max.

Try this interesting experiment - put on some music, then whilst listening gently squeeze the Burndy and SNAIC together where they enter the 552. Listen again...

You’re going to need really, really long arms.

I’ve heard the benefits of proper cable dressing (because an astonishingly nice man from Cymbiosis stripped everything down and did it for me once), but blow me down if it isn’t impossible for an ordinary mortal with a six tier double width Hutter rack filled to the max with wires that entangle themselves while your asleep to keep things “proper”.

As I recently re-installed the 552 and 500 I’ve done my best, but trying to keep the Burndy and Snaic parallel while at the same time inserting dressing (cough) all six inputs to the 552 would tax The Elongated Man.

Plus I ran out of swear words.

I will double check to see whether I dress to the right or left!!! Cheerz
