Help!

Posted by: Strutter on 25 April 2018

Hello all! New member, first post etc.

Current set up is: 272, XPSDR, 250DR, Dynaudio 1.3Mk2 - so far exclusively used with Tidal.

Recently had to move this set up further from BT HH where wifi only has been used, though am awaiting 15m of audioquest pearl ethernet cable.

I originally bought the 272 in the belief that Tidal would negate the need for cd source as I read the blurb about "cd quality" and above, though from reading this forum that appears not to be the case.

My question is really, where do I go from here? Upnp with a Core ( I don't have a pc) - install a switch? (had never heard of these until seeing mentioned here)!

Plan further down the line is to swoop for Focal Sopra 2 when funds allow.

(And despite all these replies, streaming really is quite easy if you follow Mike-B's diagram.)

Hi Strudder - Diagram with no switch  ..............................    &  .............................  with switch

Also per Huge's recommendation for basic Cat6 cable,  100% agree, my previous post is a leg pull.   @Huge can you post a link thru to your post with the cable tests.

Thanks everyone!

Tidal seems ok, but I don't want ok - I've invested in a system which deserves potential realised!

If a more economical route via NAS (if I have access to a pc) could achieve the same quality as a Core then all the better. I just don't know where to start!

Really appreciate all the comments - been a big help. If suggestions re. NAS and a nod to how to set up that'd be tremendous. Thank you all so much.

I use my basic nas with an NDS and full 500 system ..... and it is awesome - you are right you will need a pc or laptop to rip your cd's ..or if you have a laptop without a drive buy an external drive from Amazon - simples.

I am not saying my NAS is the ultimate ....... I will be changing later this year.....but this is not to do with performance ... more to do with space and backup....

We can debate tomorrow...

After you've ordered the 12m AudioQuest Diamond Ethernet cable at £7,479?

And there I was hoping to discuss the sonic differences of using different IP on servers and streamers tomorrow, I much prefer the sound of even numbered addresses at the streamer end with odd addresses sounding better on the server.

Have you noticed that IPv6 addresses seem to add a greater roundness to the sound?

Excellent stuff, been thinking it over all day. Think I'll check out the Innuos as it seems a cleaner solution, can access a pc to download DSD files onto USB and transfer to the Innuos if I understand correctly. SQ vs Core similar?

Hi try streaming - I used a WDMyCloud NAS cost about £120 (4TB) connected it via a switch and Cat6 cable. Result brilliant - I ripped all my CD's sound quality is excellent. I understand Qnap/Synology etc are highly recommended NAS drives - but mine works fine....(the latest update tames Twonky).....and I back it up to my pc periodically - simples. Try Roon if you like it .... I understand the right spec of NAS can actually run the Roon Core......... others will advise on this......try it and enjoy...the 272 is an ace streamer.

WD MyCloud works fine for me too.  Tidal on my Arcam rPlay sounds pretty close to local streaming or my CD5XS/nDAC/XPS.

Hi Strutter. Have a look at 'Core vs Nas, my twopence worth'. Feel free to agree or disagree.
