Digital Coax cable to replace DC-1
Posted by: crackie on 29 April 2018
Looking at upgrading my naim DC1 digital coax cable from HDX to n-DAC. Thinking about:
1. Vertere Pulse-HB coax. - GBP 860
2. Chord Company - perhaps the Epic - GBP 360 or Signature T/A - GBP 750
These will be part of an eventual full SL loom (currently DIN I/C and Speaker Cable.) So the nearest to the SL sound would be best.
P.S. Any chance naim will bring out a SL digital coax cable ? I thought with streamers etc. that would be an obvious cable to bring out either at the original SL roll out or very soon after.
True audio signal cables have one called a Studio 4 k Rush a 75 ohm coax BNC to BNC, which they offer money back if you do not like. I thinks it is much better than DC1.
I use a Gotham SPDIF cable... about £35 for 60 cms from memory... really like it ... it has displaced my DC1
Cheers, I’ll investigate.
I'm getting very nice results from DH Labs D750, very good cable tech for not too much money.

Can I ask you why you feel the need to replace the DC1?The reason I ask,is that I just ordered a DC1 to go between my Core and 272...so you wanting to upgrade it,is not very encouraging for me.A while back,Richard Dane mentioned that if Naim felt that they could better the DC1,they would do it.I have been using a Nordost Heimdall 11 digital cable, but it is RCA connections,so I have to use the adapters.Richard said the adapters were just to get you going, but a proper BNC connection was much better,so I ordered the DC1....
I replaced my DC1 a few years ago with a Mark Grant RCA to BNC .
Cost £30 something at the time.

Don't fret, No Quarter. I too have a DC1 and, like the OP, a full loom SL. I'm comfortable in the knowledge that Naim think it the best digital interconnect they can make. My DC1 displaced a more expensive Kimber digital interconnect because the DC1 sounded better. Now if Naim released an SL version I'd be interested.

Simon... do you have this in BNC to RCA or do you use a RCA to RCA with an adapter? Cheers
I use a BNC to phono configuration ... it’s specifically to go between my NDX and Hugo.. Don’t use adapters, as they really do not make optimal connections
thanks so much for the advice so far, only interested at this stage to see if there is better digital coax out there to the DC1.
The review I remember reading on the n-DAC by HiFi+ said the DC1 did the nDAC no favors at all. The reviewer went with a Chord Indigo Signature coax instead - and much preferred it.
I'll go off my short list and what was recommended here and see how I go.
Just a point... it’s not a case of whether there is a better SPDIF cable out there compared to the DC1, more like is there a prefereable cable based on system and sound preference once the cable interacts with the system? My DC1 seemed to sound the best between NDX and DDAC, but with NDX to Hugo I preferred the slightly more ‘agile’ presentation I heard with the Gotham... but I wouldn’t say one is better than the other in absolute terms.
I replaced my DIN-Phono DC1 between the NDX and Schiit Yggdrasil DAC with a BNC-BNC Tellurium Ultra Silver. The Silver variety is the only one they'll use for digital cables for some reason.
The rest of my cabling is a mixture of TQB (speaker wires) and T Black diamond interconnects.
There is a difference in presentation and I do like it, though I'm sure it's still settling in plus my 252 is only 2 weeks back from a service. I'll wait 3 or 4 months before putting the DC1 back in the system and determining what my reactions are.
John, did you compare your Schiitt to any other DACs like Chord etc before buying?
I agree with Simon and have found that changing digital interconnects is more of a 'voicing' exercise. I've tried several when I had a CDX2/Ndac/555 combination and tended to prefer the DC 1 in the long-term. However, prior to the arrival of the CDX2 I was using a big Sony ES777SACD player as a transport into Ndac/555 and that sounded very good with Rega's digital lead. Replacing it with the DC 1 made it sound just a tad brash and light weight.

Yes I did .. quite a few actually .. including the Hugo ..
