Speaker terminals on amps

Posted by: gsr on 30 April 2018

It's been a quiet afternoon so was wondering why the left speaker outputs on an amp are on the RHS and the right outputs on the LHS. Surely it makes more sense to have LH on the LHS etc. Saves you 30cms of cable..... every little helps!!!

As I said, it's been a long afternoon so far!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It dates from Naim’s pro roots, where amps are kept on racks with their backs at the front for easy connection of speakers.

It always worked perfectly well for me since my rack is situated on my backwall, speakers on the frontwall.

Maybe it's a subtle reminder from Naim to get your gear out from between your speakers (as it should be).

It's perhaps worth stating here though that with the latest Uniti all-in-ones, not only do we now have just "Left" and a "Right" and the "Ch 1" and "Ch 2" have been dropped, but also they are now positioned incorrectly/correctly (delete as appropriate).  Here's a comparison between the speaker sockets of the old Superuniti and the new Uniti Nova.

Thanks for solving that riddle HH. Always wondered. Should have guessed since I spend half my life staring down lines of Neutrik speakON-ended cables

The world has come to an end... speaker terminals have been misplaced on the new Uniti

Rumour has it that Naim will issue an advisory note to dealers that all new Uniti products should be installed upside down so as to correct this issue missed by the beta testers...

Lol. That reminds me of one of my father's oft-repeated stories. It was one with which he would torture my mother on occasion.

She muffed her first attempt at a baking a Pineapple Upside-down cake, in that she ended up creating a Pineapple Upside-Up cake  (when removed from the cake pan, the pineapple slices ended up on the bottom).
