Connecting Synology NAS to Nova

Posted by: gcready on 30 April 2018

I'm hoping someone can provide me with the answer.  I've got a Synology NAS Drive 218j, oddly this appeared to be 'connected' to the Naim App, or at least i had access - now its disappeared in a puff of smoke.

I understand that, I have to adjust something on the NAS Drive - but not entirely sure what.   I was therefore wondering if some kind person could steer me in the right direction..... ideally, using easy to understand directions...  Cheers.

Err, can you see the NAS drive from your computer, and log onto it's configuration web page?

I find that my Synology NAS, running Synology Media Server, occasionally "disappears" from my available UPNP servers on all devices. This seems  to coincide with me having done a batch of rips to the disk, if I do 20+ albums in a quick period it seems to occasionally confiuse the NAS.

As HH says, can you connect to the NAS from your PC? If so, then restarting the media server app is a simple clear for that.

I have Synology & iOS app but have not had the Synology disappear from the app.

What is your app,  iOS or Android.  Can you confirm you have the UPnP icon showing on the app but the Synology does not open up (is not 'discovered') to show on the app     Is the Synology fully awake (flashing LED's & on/off switch has a blue LED on) & not hibernating (no blue LED) when you try to open the app.

Have you tried resetting the app,  maybe try an all new app install.   Have you left the whole system set for DHCP (default) (if not it needs to be)       Try a complete system power cycle - all off,  then first restart the wireless router (let it finish) then the NAS (let it finish) then the Nova & then the app ,

Thanks for the swift replies - will try the suggestions and see what happens.

I did rip quite a few albums and maybe this has created a blip...

If you using the Android app (V2.6), it's known to have discovery problems finding the Media Server (particularly after waking from sleep).

Naim are well aware of this and are now putting in a lot of effort to find a solution to the problem.

Well, not entirely sure what happened.  But yep, turning it all off and on again, seemed to do the trick.  (I should have known to reboot..)

Cheers..

I had this problem when I first installed my Synology NAS.There is a setting called SSDP advertisement interval, it is found in media server, general settings. If you decrease this setting from default, it improves discovery time. I have found a setting of 180 to work well.
