Hi, can't really help you with that combo I'm afraid. I didn't audition my SU with Proac as my Naim dealer doesn't stock them. I'm very happy with my choice of Kudos X3 though, which I auditioned against PMC 23s, Focal Aria 926 and Rega RX5.

I owned a SuperUniti paired with ProAc D20r for 2 years and absolutely loved the combination. I’m not sure though how one person’s preferences would help another choose any item of hifi equipment. Almost every contributor to this forum simply tells you of their own choices, none of which they’re likely to be critical of!!

All I would say is never, if at all humanly possible, buy without auditioning in the room in which it will be used. I experienced a massive difference between dealer demo room and my lounge when choosing my latest system (272, 555DR,  250DR with ProAc K6).

Good luck.

I ran D18s with an SN2 fronted by a DAC-V1 for a year, and I really didn't get on with them at all.  Over that time I tried everything I could think of to try and tame them, but completely failed, and the last nail in the coffin was trying NAC-A5 in place of my aging QED speaker cable, which made them sound properly awful, no richness in the mid range, grainy HF edged vocals, I just couldn't stand it anymore after that.

I too replaced them with Kudos X3s after auditioning PMC Twenty5.23, Focal Aria 926 (which I also really liked for the record, only the X3s bettered them), and Russel K 100.  The exact same system ever since has been absolutely sublime and I've never looked back, other than when commenting here at times like this one.

I mention this not to imply that Proac D18s are wrong for you necessarily, or anyone else for that matter, but I found them unconvincing to say the least.  I even wonder if there was something wrong with them, as my impression of them is soooooo different to what reviews and some around here say, but then I thought PMC Twenty5.23 were pretty poor too, and they certainly have their fans.  Speakers are weird creatures, but when you nail it, regardless of your where your own personal preferences lead you, boy is it worth it.

SU + Proac should be good together, su is different from sn 2.  But do try to audition. Would also try pmc, Focal, Revel, Russell K and Martin Logan Motion series with the SU.

I have some clues for you. First su is completely different with 4,6 firmware. More details, more punch in the bass way better imaging. I use it with the studio 148 I can say that the studio 148 has much better bass then d18/d20 that I heard many times. d18 you dont want to push hard but for nearfield/mid they are hard to beat with naim. Also note that you will not necesserely prefer the d20r over d18 they have narrower dispersion and to my taste it doest give a wide soundstage. But naim and proac works very well togheter. Its used in audio shows and have been paired so many times. The lower naits dont pair that well but everything up from the super does fit with proac. At the end no matter is said, you are going to have to listen, thats the rule. But dont expect a mismatch , its not.
