Lack of app aptitude?

Posted by: easeback1 on 04 May 2018

Having a frustrating time with the Naim app. Either it's still a bit buggy, or I'm an idiot, or possibly some combination of both.

1) I can initially select / play an album via UPnP, but then I can't find any way to return to the main UPnP menu to make a different selection. I'm using the free version of Asset -- do I need the paid version?

2) The "Recent searches" field on the Tidal page of the Naim app is always blank.

I'm using Naim app version 2.6.0 on my phone (Android 8.1.0) and my tablet (Android 7.0) and have the same issues on both devices. NAC N272 has the 2.6 firmware update (same issues were noted with 2.4). I've tried to reset and reinstall everything that can be reset and reinstalled.

Thanks in advance for any tips.

Addition to 1) above:

If I go: Naim app > Input settings > UPnP > compatibility mode, I get "Dynamic browsing requires Asset Premium." Do I need the registered version of Asset?

Yes the app has problems, particularly on Android.

Naim are aware of this and are now putting a lot more effort in to fix it - they are, for instance, recruiting new staff just for this purpose.

As Huge says,  Naim are on it.  The iOS app for me is solid, whereas I've given up with Android.    Question for you;   why use compatibility mode ??

Thanks for the replies. I'll keep my fingers crossed for the next update.

I'm new to the NAS game and still finding my way around. TBH I'm not sure what compatibility mode actually does, but toggling this on and off sometimes gets me back to the main menu. Failing this, I have to go into the app settings and reset all data -- not exactly a smooth interface!

Once I get my NAS properly installed I'll try the paid version of Asset to see if that helps.

Compatibility mode is to allow the app to work better with some non-stdn UPnP software,  I'm 99% sure its not required with Asset  & 100% for sure is not required with Minimserver & my Synology Media Server software.    It might possibly be the free version of Asset,  I've never used it.       What NAS are you using - or where/what is the free Asset loaded on to at the moment??

Hi Mike. Asset is on my Macbook at present (OS X 10.10). Plan to switch over to a dedicated NAS soon enough, but would prefer to get it all working properly beforehand.

Noticed a similar bug in Tidal on the Android Naim app, where I can only return to the main menu by exiting Tidal and going back in again.

As you say, the issues are known, so probably just a case of finding workarounds for now.
