Tidal won't play all albums
Posted by: ROOG on 18 May 2018
I was having similar problems with Tidal until I upgraded my router. Took me a while to figure out the culprit, because my 10-year old router (type g) seemed to be coping well enough with all other streaming sources.
£50 spent on a new type a/c router turned out to be a great investment. Tidal now runs very nicely via the Naim app (vs. barely usable before).
Thank you 'Easeback1' that is interesting. I have a new router, but it is the standard device shipped by my service provider. I wonder what the issue at the route of the problem is?
Weird that it works fine on the PC.
I have reported this before. The problem is that the Naim app can't handle "Various artists" correctly. The app locks and has to be restarted. It is sad, there are many albums that can't be played.
As a piece of advice to the Naim developers, I think the problem is that there are so many other albums from the artist "Various artists", too many for the app to handle. This causes the app to lock.
Same problem here with my ND5XS. Tracks are "hanging" let say from track 1 to 2 with all kinds of albums randomly, but not always. Or a track stops playing suddenly, very annoying. I use the software 4.4 version, don't now if it's better or worse with 4.6.
ROOG posted:i have been using tidal for a couple of months and i notice that when using the naim app it won't play some albums. thse tend to be complations the app just stops or perhaps it slows so much it looks like it has stopped. it works fine on a pc. any ideas what i happening here?
Hard to say for sure, but it sounds like there has been loss of data to the point that the network sessions are closed in fetching the assets from Tidal servers across the Internet, your home LAN/WLAN into the app... although the app should timeout and re request them, perhaps for whatever reason it’s not.
So might be worth checking the quality of your WLAN (wi-fi) where you use your app. Is it a good signal, is there other activity on your WLAN when you have this issue.
If the WLAN is congested and/ or weak, you might want to look on upgrading it. But either way it suggests the App is not handling your environment correctly. If your WLAN is good, I would contact Naim support.
If the track itself stops playing and your streamer is wired to your broadband router, and is anything but very infrequent, then it suggests you have possibly congestion or high data loss or poor broadband router performance with your ISP. If the streamer is connected via WLAN, then the comments about WLAN apply as above.
This has nothing to do with the router or WLAN!!!!! It is the Naim app that can't handle "Various artists".
I think that Naim should investigate and solve this problem.
The Nam app handles various artists fine. All mine play perfectly.
Agree the app handles various artist perfectly from a NAS or similar. But I had what seems like the same problem when I used Tidal, I didn't get it with Spotify, so I suspect its something related to Tidal & maybe also the Naim end. As suggested previously I would e-mail Naim Support
Morning Gents,
Just so we are comparing like with like, could you give an example or two from Tidal, so we are comparing like with like (Screen shots would be useful). Also could you let us know your location (country, region) as that can influence what is playable. Finally make and model of Wifi router in use. If you would prefer to provide these details to me directly, email: steve.harris@naimaudio.com
Best regards

Hello Steve,
Thanks for joining us, from memory the sound track from the musical "La la Land" wont play, it simply hangs when selected from my ipad playing on my superuniti. My router is a standard sky device, installed from new in Dec 2017
Hope this helps
Hi Roog,
Based on some unvestigation work on the issue discussed above could you let me know the ios version your apple device is running on. We believe we have a ios9/10 compatability issue which is causing thevproblem described.

Not just me then, I chose that Tidal 'album' because it was one of the 'offenders' which didn't have a huge number of tracks, I noticed the problem seems to occur for me when using Tidal to play musical collections from say, 'The 60's', which have lots of tracks.
Once I try to play a track, the iPad screen just stops responding, it might just be that it is running very, very slowly! either way it isn't practical to play the track or 'album'. I have to close the Naim App and restart to get going again.
I did check and the same 'albums' play fine on a PC.
