Unitiserve issues

Posted by: stebro on 18 May 2018

I’ve owned a Unitiserve for about four years and really enjoy it.  Recently, I’ve experienced some issues:

-When I burn a CD, it no longer downloads the cover as it used to.  I can still search for the cover image after the CD is burned and add it but it’s an inconvenience and I wonder why this problem just started happening.   I tried different cover art search engines but it didn’t help.

-The identity and all the data for a disc I burn is sometimes incorrect. I just burned a disc of Mozart symphonies and it showed up as Beethoven quartets.

-Sometimes it’s not possible to edit disc titles, composers, artists, tracks, etc.  When I enter the information, it seems OK at first but within 30 seconds or less I get an error message saying it is unable to edit the information. The data I entered disappears and it reverts to what was there before. This happens an some discs but others don’t have the problem.

Would appreciate and tips from the experts out there to resolve these issues.  Thanks!

Thanks to everyone for being so helpful.  Hoping to get the 1.7 update on disc from Eric Adler at Naim any time.  I’ll come back with the results.

Sorry—but Is there also an update to the Naim desktop client?  Does it have to be done before the update tom1.7b?  If so, how do you perform that?

If you want to make sure you have an up to date version of the DTC, just download it again from the Naim website, but I doubt you will need to. Either way, it won’t stop you from updating with the CD.

It's included in the 1.7b update CD anyway, but as Chris says, you can download it from the Naim website. You don't need it to do the update,.

I’m the original poster and I have the HDD.

I don't know why Chanyee asked this because I don't think it makes any difference. 1.7b gives you MusicBrainz. It's not as good as AMG used to be but it's all there is for US right now. And some record companies have got difficult about artwork recently.

If after you have 1.7b you have problems with editing or whatever, do come back and we will certainly try to help.

I have the SSD version and I had trouble getting Album art cover after CD rips for well over a year.

Finally contacted Phil/Eric and found out that my internal memory is Full (SSD has 16GB) so it will no longer be able to upload the Art Cover.

There are ways to fix this but looks like thats not the issue here.

I've been on the latest firmware for a couple of years. The album art problem is quite recent.

May I ask which version of the UnitiServe do you have - HDD or SSD

HDD.

I just received the 1.7b update disc from Eric Adler. Sorry but I’m a relative novice and need help already.  I put the disc in my computer to see what’s on it.  It has these files:

Naim desktop client

upgrade

12-001-0090 iss 6c hdx1.7 migration

five additional migration files

files ready to be  written to disc-desktop.ini

I don’t see any instructions

I figured the desktop client file was to update the program on my Windows PC and the others were for the US (?)  I opened the desktop client and got a message saying that another version of the the program is already installed and I need to delete it first.   I want to be certain that’s what to do and that deleting the desktop client won’t delete any of my hundreds of music files.   Am I correct that I should delete Desktop Client 1.7a  follow the prompts to install desktop client 1.7b and then insert the update disc into my US.  After it’s in the US, I’m assuming it will update the firmware there with no further actions needed on my part.  Or do I have this all wrong?  Thanks in advance!

Have you read this?

https://www.naimaudio.com/site...glish%20Iss%207B.pdf

(remembering that the first, bit about burning iso files, is unnecessary as you now have the CD)

It's easy!

Put the disc in your Unitiserve. After a while it will eject it. Keep watching and after 5 mins or so the logo will start flashing. Eventually it will stop. Then you should shut down the Unitiserve by touching the logo as usual, wait for it to go off, then switch the power switch on the back panel off and on again. The US will restart and the job is done!

if you use the desktop client then yes you should remove the old one using windows and install the new 1.7b version on your PC from the CD. That's it!

Thanks again!  Does it matter what I do first— delete the current desktop client on my PC and install desktop client  1.7b or do the upgrade in my US.

It doesn’t matter which way round you do it.

Thanks you guys.  I took  a deep breath, updated both the desktop client and my US and it worked!   I’m ripping a disc now and it was correctly recognized (I’ll try not to get spoiled by this).  Thanks also to Phil Harris and Eric Adler at Naim for sending the update disc. It’s really nice to have such a helpful community.  You guys are the best!

i did think of another question.  Until now, I’ve experienced a problem where every few weeks the desktop client acts funny. When I go to the music library on my pc and click on artists or any other selection, nothing happens.  Phil and others at Naim taught me how to fix this by opening regedit and deleting a file called musiclibrarysplit.  I’m hoping that, with the new desktop client version, this won’t happen. Has anyone else experienced this?
