Can this be used as the DAC to a CD5XS.

yes, but not sure it will be a real upgrade. naim dac into cd5xs s an upgrade....

Yes you can take a digital output from the CD5XS into the Dac-V1, but as suggested by French Rooster it won't be a big upgrade. If you haven't got a power supply on your CD5XS then a Hicap DR would be the better option if you want you upgrade.

Unless the DAC V1 is acting as sole pre-amp, in which case the upgrade factor is not a question. It works.

Are you keeping the Nait XS?
