ND555 specification - what a load of... mistakes?

Posted by: rjstaines on 20 May 2018

I just looked at the ND555 specs on the Naim web site and I'm seeing some wierd and wonderful connections, like a 5pin din INPUT and THREE digital OUTPUTS (see below my copy/paste).

Anyone can make a mistake, but hey, there's surely a limit when you're tasked with creating a web page for a world flagship streamer...

Am I being too harsh, or is this player really more equipped than anyone could have hoped for?

The specs did not mention if the ND555 comes with both burndies. Does anyone know if it’s part of the package?

The NDS comes in 'with' or 'without' burndies configurations, so one can imagine the ND555 might as well.  However, the 500 series of 'things' tends to arrive with a box brimming with everything you could possibly need to operate it, so if I were a betting man, I would say the burndies will be included, just like the CD555.

There is a missing colon, methinks.

Goodness gracious HH, you're quite right, there's something missing.  I'd have used a semi colon or even a full stop  (that's 'period' for our friends accross the pond, of course).

It's a shame the folk who wrote the web page in question weren't as observant as you.  One can only assume they were in a great hurry to get the information to us readers.

But as I noted earlier in this thread, anyone can make a mistake!

I only mentioned it because after reading the post about six times and not understanding it, I looked closer and realised what was wrong. You are right though, that a semi colon would be even better.

I pointed out to Naim about five years ago that the pictures of the 252 and 282 on the product pages are actually those of a 552, but they are still wrong.

It used to mention the supplied accessories in the spec on the website for the ND555 but this only mentions :-

Zigbee® remote, Power-Line cable (UK denominations only), cleaning cloth, quick start guide

Which itself doesn't seem right as there's no power supply as part of the package. Looks more like something extracted from the Nova product sheet as it also mentions the rotary volume control further up...

I doubt it would be supplied without Burndy cables as the power supply options are limited to one or two 555PS supplies.

There you go...

Thanks Chrissu... this brings back memories of the colonscopy I had a few weeks ago.  But how on earth do they get the camera around those tight bends?  ...and what, I'm wondering, does this have to do with ND555 specs?

Ah, I've figured it... the specs are in a white paper?     Hang on, no, they're not in a white paper, they're on the web site. The mystery remains.

PS - my colonoscopy was clear, by the way

Posted on: 22 May 2018 by hungryhalibut

The tip of the scope is powered and can be angled to help it round the bends. Then it’s a matter of pushing and pulling it to get it round them. It’s a tricky procedure and needs a lot of experience to do it well.

Well I've learnt something today and that is really good news, Roger.

I bet you're relieved (no pun intended !)

Posted on: 22 May 2018 by Gazza

Not a pleasant experience. Whilst waiting for my colonoscopy I was watching these pretty young nurses scurrying around the corridors, it relieved the boredom and anxiety. Then my turn, walk into the room, and it’s the pretty nurses going to do the procedure.......hoho very embarrassing. But all clear. I think we may be off topic here.????

I found it the same when I had mine checked. I remember thinking of it as something of a bonus :-)))

Way, way off topic, but hey, this is the forum!

Perhaps we need a thread on topics that concern elderly men's health.

When I had mine they told me it uses a low pressure squirt of nitrogen to separate that which needs separating as it works its way up. Oxygen is no longer used, I forget why as I was too busy with the quite intense stomach pain that the rather nice nurse correctly warned me about. To do with absorption iirc.

If anything this thread shows the importance of correct punctuation; from a DR psu to the internal workings, or the conflicting meanings implied in these two offerings:

First-hand job experience required.

First hand-job experience required.

Yes they tell you about feeling like you have “wind” , which was a bit of an understatement. Now my grammar has slightly improved, time for me to move on.

Posted on: 22 May 2018 by rjstaines

So we're agreed then...

the ND555 doesn't have quite as many connections as the web site says it has

and...

a colonoscopy gives you wind

The Forum has once again proved its usefulness in managing not only your (future) audio kit but also your health.

The ND 555 quick start guide on the naim website in customer support shows what's in the box and this includes 2 burndy leads and a hi-line.

It also shows you need a hi-fi system and illustrates what a hi-fi system looks like in case you did not know.

The power supply is still called a CD555PS power supply even though CD 555 is discontinued. I would have thought it would be renamed.

Thanks for your replies.

It’ll be great if the ND555 comes with burndies as one may expect at that price point.

If you check Naim's website it says otherwise : No Burndy, No Hi-Line

If you click on "show all specifications"

You'll see this :

On Naim's website, you need to go to Customer support, quick start guides and look at the ND555 quick start guide and there you can see that there are 2 burndy leads in the box in section 1 of the guide.

I think this is a better indication of what you get than the specification page as this thread started with an observation that the specification information was not accurate

The ND555 page is still seemingly WiP and being reviewed and will doubtless be amended in due course.  In fact, I see that some things have already been corrected.

As Packerman correctly points out, the ND555 quick-start guide shows that the Burndies come with the head unit. That makes sense as the 555PS comes with none and there's no other option here, so the pair of Burndies are the only option.  In such cases, where there's only one possible choice, Naim usually includes.

Hi,

Correct - the ND555 *REQUIRES* the CD555PS - it cannot be used with an XPS or XP5XS...

[@mention:1566878603985147], I think the question was would it work with a pre-DR CD555PS, which would be important for people running an NDS (or lower) on a pre-DR PSU.

........and unless the price has been written in tablets of stone, Naim could include anything they like in the box and adjust the paperwork and price accordingly.....me thinks ?

Not if you have already paid for a pair of Burndies so your your NDS can be powered by a CD555PS and then might possibly want to upgrade to the ND555. Naim would surely understand that many ND555 buyers will be coming from a NDS/555PS, would want to retain the PS and the Burndies, making additional Burndies superfluous. It would therefore seem sensible to offer the ND555 with or without Burndies, as with the NDS.

Posted on: 22 May 2018 by KRM

So those of us who already own the burndies can confidently expect a significant discount (£700?) on the £13k asking price. Happy days.
