Audirvana best settings

Posted by: angelodipa on 26 May 2018

Hello to all

finally yesterday I've installed and configured my last upgrade.

now my system is: MacMini with Audirvana> DAC V1 via Asynchronous USB> 202 / Hicap / 200> Ovator s400.

I was wondering if there are better and more up-to-date Audirvana settings than I found on Naim's official guide.

For example:

- Has anyone tried the SoX converts to the place of the iZotope suggested on the guide?

In my opinion there are a number of parameters updated by Audirvana that have not yet been updated on the official guide ....

Waiting for your (always valuable) suggestions ...

tried SoX for a while, did not like it, it sounds a bit thin, and bright. Maybe I did not adjust the "Advanced Parameters" appropriately. The other settings that I am using (for my Chord Hugo) are:

1) 32 bit pcm bit depth, but in your case, I would limit max pcm bit depth to 24 because your DAC V1 would only accept max bit depth of 24 bit
2) No forced upsampling
3) Try to get a version of /System/Library/Extensions/IOAudioFamily.kext that supports INT mode (You need to be familiar with OSX to do it)
4) Set volume control type to DAC only
5) System Optimizer set to Extreme
4) Set assign memory allocated for tracks pre load to at least 1,024 MB or 25 % of your Mac Mini RAM
5) Set sample rate conversion iZotope to Best
6)  As for the Advanced Parameters:
  o Steepness 150
  o Filter max length 1,000,000
  o Cutoff freq 1
  o Anti-aliasing 200
  o Pre ringing 0.73

Thanks Frank

very very very nice setup... amazing!

Now sounds full and detailed... thanks again!

NB: in according of point 3, i had read some about and i left my MacMini with EL CAPITAN.... so the IOAudioFamily.kext should be just the right one that can support the INt mode.... isn't true?

You should be fine with El Capitan, make sure that you select INT mode 1, it sounds better because Damien "tuned" integer mode and came up with mode 1,

Angelodipa,  I had the same kit you have and had the same parameters Frank posted above.

+1 again with what Frank said.

Also, don't upgrade to Sierra/High Sierra or you will lose Direct Mode, elsewhere there is an online facility to help "Computer Audiophiles" and they detail a kext to get "Direct Mode" back, it is a royal faff and didn't work for me so I lost it. I find 3.1.8 or 18 can't remember better than SoX versions.
