Hi Folks......
Im looking for some advice and logical explanation regarding an upgrade I would like to do.
Im currently running my Superline from the 252 I have in my system, I m looking to purchase a Supercap next week to power the Superline, my question is, is this upgrade worth the expense? Am I likely hear a noticeable difference with this upgrade.
The reason for asking this is I have a CD5X CD player powered by a flatcap and I have to say the music it produces seams to shake the bottom of your trousers whilst listening. When playing vinyl it just doesn't replicate the same sound however I have made a fair few mods to the vinyl side lately and maybe its just the fact the vinyl side of my system is of superior quality now. I am still burning in the NAP 300DR.
My system, Sondek, Cirkus, Kore, Ekos II, Krystal and Lingo 4
NAC 252/Supercap DR
NAP 300DR
Superline with Airplugs 576R, 470pf ( care of Peter )
CD5X/flatcap/Hiline interconnect
Alleas with Chord Sureline
All mounted on Naim Fraim shelving
I do hope someone has maybe experienced the same and look forward to shed some light on this.
thanks
Neil

A dedicated PS is the way to go. I run my Superline with a HiCap DR. When funds permit I’ll be going Supercap DR. HiFi Critic ran an interesting Phono pre-amp comparison in the last issue, the Supercap/HiCap DR combo came out really well so I imagine that the Suprcap will be the icing on the cake.

Are you getting a supercap or supercap DR
if it’s only a supercap then that might be best on the 252 and put the DR on the superline
another alternative could be a Radikal

The Superline powered by a Supercap DR is pretty damn special, but a Radikal opens up the possibility of switching to a Urika. However, as the Lingo 4 is probably a recent purchase I doubt that you would want to go that route

Thanks to you all for such great advice and suggestions.
Im purchasing a Supercap DR as my 252/Supercap DR are a recent purchase also. I guess this makes the difference...
I was kind of looking at the radikal route but I have to admit I am a Naim die hard and as you quite rightly say I have just recently purchased the Lingo 4 but like all things it too can be upgraded later.
thank you so much to you all

When I went from supercap to DR on the superline it was quite a noticeable improvement
what ive noticed with DR it gives the music a much more natural presentation
i went from hi cap to supercap on a prefix many moons ago
what I would suggest is you remove the phono boards from the 252, if the 52 is anything to go buy these boards drain quite a lot of power even when not in use

SuperCap DR on a SuperLine - escellent. It’s worthy of a best turntable.
Two points to note: you will need to additional cables - SNAXO/SuperLine Burndy and a HiLine 4-pin DIN > 5-pin DIN (connects an output on a SuperCap to NAC’s aux input,

Hi Neil,
We tried a Superline fed from the 52 pre-amp and it sounded good, if not spectacular. Then we powered it from a dedicated Supercap DR. Words like Gosh! and Wow! spring to mind. A transformational improvement, the difference between an okay phono stage and a truly great one. You are in for a treat.
Best regards, FT

I can endorse this view. In a (rare) moment of trying to limit boxes, we tried the S'Line powered from the 552. It took only a few moments to reinstate the S'Cap and restore audio rightness. Must get a DR for the S'Cap.
