Uniti Atom + NAP 100

Posted by: tony123 on 11 June 2018

Hi,

I was browsing official Naim webpage and found information, that "...the new Uniti Atom can be upgraded with one of our external power amplifiers, such as the compact NAP 100."

So I'm thinking would it be any quality differences connecting NAP 100 to Uniti Atom (apart from additional 10 watts of power)? Is it worth upgrading? Anyone tried?

Nap 100 is quite cheap, so it would be good investment if sound quality is better.

My speakers are Focal Aria 926.

I imagine most will tell you to upgrade to a Nova instead but this is a lot cheaper option. Only you though can tell if it will be worth it though. Go demo one setup with an Atom or better still a home demo. You could get a 2nd hand NAP200 and then be closer to the Nova for a lot less than a Nova costs.

Thanks.

And just for interest, are there noticeable improvements in quality going from Atom to Nova? I'm asking because my seller said, that it is just a power - Nova has additional 30 watts of power and that is all. As my speakers are pretty efficient, I didn't need more power and bought Atom.

But seems it is not true.

The Nova is a completely different better components, transformer, and attention to isolation of sensitive circuits. It to me has more detail and control of the music and is a big step up from the Atom.

I was impressed by the Atom until I listened to the Nova. It is not just a case of added power the Nova is at a different level altogether.

I bought the Nova as I considered it better value. Rather than spend more money on the Atom I’d buy a Nova.

I found a big difference in the speakers I auditioned. I heard nothing better than the Dynaudio special 40 for less than £4000. I only wish I’d bought the C20.

Stop listening to your dealer and listen to the gear so you can decide for yourself!

Thanks for replays.

I just thought that NAP 100 could be useful to connect 4 speakers to Uniti Atom.

Sometimes it is very handy. For example if you are doing some work, walking around the house or flat. You can add additional 2 speakers somewhere in another room and connect them to NAP 100. If you sit in listening position, you can just leave NAP 100 turned off. But when you walk around the house or flat doing some household work you can turn on NAP 100 and listen to music in much broader space.

Just bit the bullet and traded my Atom for a Nova, due in about 2 weeks????

And what about Uniti Star compared to Uniti Nova from sound quality view point?

I auditioned the Star and bought the Nova. It’s a step up from the Star.
